    Hard Work NO PAY

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) San Gabriel, CA

ProsThe opportunity for growth is there... if you are ok with working til you cant anymore and getting paid slave wages. The people I have worked with for the most part are awesome the company does a good job of finding competitive hungry employees who have the natural ability to achieve. THe whole training and management process is in essence just a giant weed out, if you can cope with being told you're being paid well when your not and getting overworked to struggle to live with the hope of being promoted high enough to make good money then this place is for you. Just need to know the dream is a lot farther than the reality. Not many people get to Area Manager in less than 5-6 years and you see mid level five figures until you climb that high. Great for the resume and great for the experience, horrible for the ride.

ConsDisgruntled customers, being set up to fail, being told that customer service is everything, when the idea of the company is get a customer in the door and get the car later. Many a time I have had to talk someone down because of a 1-2 hour wait it is awful. Been cussed out numerous times, for things I felt awful for doing and I just have to keep smiling. Also being sugarcoated into thinking my hard work is worth what they pay, my damn college debt is more than my yearly salary (uhhhhhhhh, irony we need a degree here).

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being so top heavy. The reason you make so much is because the troops are out there weathering the storm. This isn't a frat just cause you paid your dues doesn't mean you deserve salaries that thrump mine by 7-8 fold.

Great work experience, especially if you're into sales. Met a lot of great people.

ProsI love the people that work at Enterprise. I've had one subpar manager that ended up getting fired. Other than that, the people are my favorite thing about the job. Most of them came to be my friends and we hang out outside of work. I've also learned a lot about sales, cars, and the transportation industry. Enterprise's training program is also held in high regard to other companies, which is beneficial if you ever decide to leave the company.

ConsBe willing to work very long hours. 7am-6pm is the norm. You also need to be easy going. Customers will yell and say rude things to you so you have to be willing to take it from them and not argue back. The phrase "the customer is always right" sums it up pretty well. But management will usually back you up.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe flexible with employees' schedules.

    Eh

    Driver (Current Employee) Morrisville, NC

    ProsFlexible scheduling as a driver.

ConsManagers and higher-ups treat the drivers and car preps like slaves. Not much leadership, a lot of bossing around and everyone wanting to be the chief.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay as much attention to employee relations as you do customer service. They are horrid.

Work you like a dog, but potential to make big $$$ within 3-5 years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOffice culture is like that of a college sports team. Work hard, play hard. Lots of high fives and cheering to keep people energetic and the day going by.

ConsAverage of 10-12 hours a day, including washing cars and driving cars from point A to point B to get ready for the next day.

    Branch Manager

Branch Manager (Current Employee) Portland, OR

ProsAwesome company culture. ERAC has great intentions, environmental platforms, ethical standards and a progressive thought of doing what's right for its employees. You will meet some of your best life-long friends working for this company! As a manager, pay is decent if you perform and the company car perk is great.

ConsManaging 22 year old college grads with no work experience is very taxing. There is something about the car rental industry that breeds nasty, manipulative customers who take advantage of our "always do the right thing for our customers" approach. Work-Life balance is non-existent. The more hours you put in, usually the better you will perform. The biggest headache in my opinion is that recruiting/area managers are often hiring just to get a body behind the counter, rather than hiring for talent. Because of this, revenues suffer and "training and development" quickly turns into performance management.

Advice to Senior ManagementHuge disconnect between group rental managers and actual branch staff. Get your level 3's in the branches and out in the field more.

hard work, decent pay, looooooong hours, great people

Management Trainee (Current Employee) Washington, DC

Prospeople are awesome, good starting job, great experience, good for resume. there is opportunity for quick promotion if you are good at sales. upper management does seek to develop you professionally. you learn everything about the company. everyone starts from the same place.

Consthe hours are extremely long. the days begin to run together as it can get repetitive. you have to bend over back words for unappreciative customers. you wash cars in a tie. often understaffed. have to work some saturdays. biggest issue is the hours.

Advice to Senior Managementhire some more people and spread the hours some! continue giving recent college grads an opportunity. let the staff wear enterprise polo's in the summer, the dress shirt/tie is too damn hot.

    Department Head for 14 years

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people you work with are great. It can be very stressful to hit goals with lack of support from corporate office. Technology in the company is finally starting to get out of the 1980's. Many of your coworkers have similar backgrounds which it makes easier to relate. Several employees are hungry for advancement.

ConsThey will make a lot for suggestions but never fully endorse anything. Support form corporate is very low and no ownership from higher managers. You work long hours which cuts into your work/life balance. "You are only as good as your last month" is a common saying in middle management.

Advice to Senior ManagementStaff more employees. "Do more with less." was the worst message to send to your employees. Everyone was scared for their job for a long time.

    – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
