At first I was sold on the dream of moving up in the company, but after being here I'll be leaving soon.

Hard work, little pay, good for resume

    Management Trainee (Former Employee)
    Ventura, CA

Prosresume builder, meet good people, competitive

Consfavoritism for promotions, either your in with the cool kids or your out, bad customers, you will be tasked with repossessing cars, driving too much, driving can be hazardous to your health, little to no pay increase once you grill and get promoted.

Advice to Senior Managementlisten to your employees and quit playing favorites.

Watch out! The position advertised is a trap!

    Management Trainee (Current Employee)
    Portland, OR

ProsThe other MT's you will meet will be pretty cool. Other then that its truly a struggle to find many other pros to the position.
If you drink the kool aid and sell well I guess you can get a promotion. If you don't mind working 60 hours its great.

ConsThe worst part is work life balance. Monday mornings could easily go from 6:15a - 6:30p. It was a shock when we were able to come in at 7:00a as an MT. The second worst part is the work load. We were constantly given a huge work load without time to complete it. We were expected to complete what are known as call backs, it was a miracle if you even had time to sit down and complete a few of them. I was continually put on the spot when it came to not having call backs done as I was taking care of customers. I felt more like a chauffeur than an MT, constantly giving people rides to and from our store. Another horrible part is washing cars in a suit. Our service agent was only part time so it was guaranteed you were gonna clean a good amount of cars that day. Our management continued to lie to us and tell us he would eventually be full time, but it never happened. Nothing takes away morale like washing a car and getting your tie sucked up in a vacuum. The company says that they reward hard work, a statement which I now scoff at. In my time never once were we rewarded for all the work we put in.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop worrying about your bottom line. Many branches are continually understaffed and customer service and back office work suffers because so. Also cut it out with the idea of no look book. I absolutely loathed having to tell customers we didn't have a car for them when they showed up. We are a rental car company! Make sure you don't over book, and leave your MTs out to dry.

    long hours, little pay

    Management Trainee (Former Employee)
    Langley Park, MD

Prosgreat job for someone fresh out of college with little bills. Most of your co workers are young so the office atmosphere is typically fun. happy hours are awesome ( but usually on a saturday) and it is a pretty secure position

Consthe work week is typically 50 hours at least. the pay is horrible and the customers are terrible.

Long Hours, Little Pay, No Future

    Management Trainee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat people to work with, all in the same boat as you. Good training for the future. Consistent amount of hours given. Fun events if you're a top seller.

ConsThis is not the job you want to work at. The hours are extremely long (50+), the pay is pennies compared to anywhere else you might work (less than $14 an hour for a management trainee), and the work is extremely stressful. They also talk about promoting you quickly if you sell well, and I was the top seller in our area. But if you're at a larger branch especially, I've found that they just want you there as labor. No true commitment to getting you promoted. I saw ~15 people in my area alone leave in the year that I worked here.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that the employees have lives to live outside of Enterprise. Give them less hours and raise their pay a little, and turnover won't be as high.

It is not about your intelligence, but whom you know to get promoted. They promote their favorites only.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsYou learn time management due to the fact you do most of the work without any help. And they pay on time.

ConsMajority of the customers have made a few mistakes in their lives, the reason most of them need a replacement vehicle is because they wrecked their car or someone else hit him. In both of those cases the customer assumes they are not responsible for anything, even the gas they use. They become angry when you have to charge them. you wash a lot of cars with dirty equipment in makeshift car washing areas and you get yelled because the cars are dirty. Also their these area mgr types

Car prep is an okay job if you're in college.

    Car Prep (Former Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

Pros-You get to drive different cars and pick up/drop off customers.
-Branch/Assistant Managers and "Managers in Training" are cool for the most part.

    Cons-You're washing cars outside.
-Sometimes you have five minutes to detail a car because a "customer is waiting."
-I would not want to work here as a Manager in Training. They get worked. I had one tell me I was lucky I didn't deal with customers and was alone in the back one time.

    Rent-A-Headache

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Flint, MI

Prosdiscounts on rentals, tires, hotel, cellular service. But the discounts weren't HUGE.

ConsThere wasn't any clarity on what your role was in the office. All persons in the branch did the same thing. I don't know why anyone would need a degree to work for this company (statistics show if you have a degree, you are more prone to stay at a job longer- thus i think that is the reason for the need of a degree). Hours were long for little pay. Not enough staff to help, in suits you have to clean cars with "Service Agents". Most employees were out to look for themselves to climb the corporate ladder, so a lot of chapstick was used or being manipulative/ conniving.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop looking out for your own benefit.
