Great place to work

Intern (Current Employee)
Boston, MA

I have been working at Environmental Defense as an intern for less than a year

ProsReally nice, passionate people. Everyone is willing to give a helping hand. I enjoyed working with numerous projects during my time there. It was great.

ConsThe pay wasn't great, but what can you expect when you work at a nonprofit. Regardless, I would recommend a job at the EDF to anyone.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great work environment with capable collegues that are all passionate about many facets of the environment.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Environmental Defense part-time

ProsIt is a very professional work environment and your colleagues are always willing to share and collaborate their independent work.

ConsManagement is always willing to listen but not often willing to move on policy which sometimes leaves them behind the curve. Overly cautious but nonpartisanship can be helpful later on.

Great organization that balances competing priorities for the planet and people.

Program Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Environmental Defense full-time for more than 3 years

ProsVery pragmatic, yet innovative organization to work for. Seeks to accomplish large-scale environmental change with as many partners as possible. Strong organizational culture. Supportive work environment. Upper management/executives are open and receptive. Strong leadership throughout organization.

ConsFor new hires, it can be tricky to integrate into and navigate the organization. Programs and departments operate in silos and there is less cross-departmental communications and coordination.

Passionate pragmatists

Analyst (Current Employee)
Austin, TX

I have been working at Environmental Defense full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThis is a great org to work for if you care about pragmatic solutions to environmental problems. Middle management is generally great in my experience, caring about their employees and generally seeking to encourage professional growth.

ConsUpper management is a little detached, and often times the pressure to fund raise overtakes other work priorities. While personal and professional growth is encouraged there are limits and promoting from within seems rare.

EDF is a relaxed place to work where you feel like you are doing good things with good people

Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Environmental Defense

ProsI think the best reasons to work for EDF has to be the atmosphere. The NYC office is extremely laid back, everyone is very friendly. The employers are very understanding of your personal life and time and don't want you to revolve your life around the job. As for the office itself, it is in a great location in the heart of the Flatiron district. The office has a very open floor plan with high ceilings that help prevent you from going stir crazy and It also consists of 4 floors and 3 kitchens with some of the most amazing views of the city I've ever seen

ConsThe downside of working at EDF has to be the leadership and continuity of the missions. Often it seemed there was no direct resolve in the work in we were doing.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy best advice to the EDF mgmt would have to be for better communication among the workers. Although communication was constant substance and meaning were often lacking

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
