I worked at Equinox Fitness full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Free membership, nice to work out especially if you live near a location.

    Cons

Absolutely no work-life balance. You're on call 24/7 and will get phone calls and emails on the weekend, when you're sick, or on vacation.
Impossible to plan ahead on projects due to last minute changes. Every monthly promotion was a rush.
Lots of turnover within the department (being there more than a year was considered a long time).
    Benefits were awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address the morale problem and burnout that comes with high turnover and reward hard working employees accordingly. Make work-life balance a priority and make management lead by example.

I have been working at Equinox Fitness full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Free Club membership and a decent benefits package. Friendly Staff.

    Cons

Very corporate atmosphere. All the care and energy is put into making money, not the well being of their employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to lead. Not Manage. Anyone can tell someone what to do, and they will do it. But to inspire people to want to do their job, that is leadership.

I worked at Equinox Fitness full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

being able to work out at a great luxury gym was definitely a plus. In addition, I was able to meet many influential people and develop relationships with the members.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth. Very cutthroat and sales goals are almost unattainable in areas outside of NY.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be realistic about the club and truly invest in what will make that individual club better.

    Pros

    Free membership at anybEquinox gym
    Work with some talented people
    Company expansion growth

    Cons

    No training
    Benefits horrible
No sense of direction from management
    No self growth supported
    Horrible immediate managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Play more active role in listening to your employees not just so called managers.
The company will continue to loose a lot of talented employees due to sense of no direction and personal growth.

I have been working at Equinox Fitness

    Pros

You can make lots of money if you want to work 14 hour days

    Cons

They couldn't care less about your family or social life. There is absolutely no life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I always have to question how short sighted companies can be by thinking the most important factor on a job is simply compensation. If they took the time to look at just about any survey of things employees ranked as the most important factors related to job satisfaction, they would find that compensation is somewhere in the middle. Work/Life Balance, the ability to have achievable goals, relationship with management and employees, and job security almost always are higher up the chart than compensation. If those are things that are important to you, this is not the company for you.

I have been working at Equinox Fitness part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Fancy gym, a lot of equipment.

    Cons

No life balance, everyone is so stuck up , no schedule, low salary, work work work. I got hired, started the training process which you get payed for however I decided to not work there because they wanted me to quit my other job to be there all the time and I had told them since the beginning i couldn't. They said they would still pay me for the training process however NEVER got payed!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so stuck up and trying to be so perfect as people and as a club.

I have been working at Equinox Fitness full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Very open schedule, ability to have complementary club membership, great employees discounts. Good atmosphere to work.

    Cons

No room to grow, management of club very unprofessional. Pay is very low compared to similar jobs in the city.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clubs have great talent throughout. it will be a good idea to consider feedback from line employees to have a better idea on what is going on. Also in the process of obtaining members surveys questions about club management should be included.

I have been working at Equinox Fitness full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Immaculate fitness environment, between the gym, spa, and EarthBar. Focus on education *can* build intelligent, well-rounded trainers. Clientele are fitness-minded.

    Cons

It's easy to get burnt out in the first few months because you're expected to put in incredibly long days (nothing less than double digits, and 12-14 isn't uncommon) while ramping up. High turnover rate leads to low morale (veteran trainers are dismissive of new hires until they've lasted 6 months and ramping trainers feel constantly on the verge of termination if ambitious quotas aren't met.) Pay isn't great, especially given what the company charges for PT. Must be extraordinarily sales-oriented; Yelp reviews liken the floor trainers to sharks on the hunt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to keep your trainers (and management) around longer so even the notion of stability can grow.
