I have been working at Evernote (less than a year)

    Pros

I really loved working for Evernote. I was on the Web Team and they were a fun goofy bunch. They may programming fun. They are not only close in the office but best friends outside of the company which really keeps communication honest and transparent. Also I really appreciated the Transparency of the entire company. They had weekly all-hands meetings and the CEO gave some insightful knowledge that was happening inside the company and outside the company. The engineers work extremely close with their designers and I absolutely loved that.

    Cons

There were quite a few sudden change in management because things were falling behind schedule at times. That kept it hard to adjust in terms of directions because one minute you're working under one branch and the next you're working for a combined or hybrid branch. It's not the worst thing in the world but it is something to be aware of in a quick small start up environment.

I worked at Evernote as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    Great atmosphere, perks, people, project!

    Cons

I guess it depends on who you're working with. But personally I felt like I needed more feedback on my work (critiques, etc)

I have been working at Evernote full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lunch is great, new office is well designed, and I use the product to keep myself organized. My co-workers have taught me professional skills, camaraderie, and how to get things done.

My family and friends use Evernote, it's an app brand I'm proud to work for.

There's a new cafe on the first floor lobby which has become a new spot to meet other teams, VPs, and interact with more people outside of your direct group. Some employees have volunteered for barista shifts, which means I get a latte poured during a causal work meeting. Yum. (Even the CEO occasionally serves coffee)

I trust my boss and have been trained over the years at Evernote. Looking forward to the next few years as we get this company ready for the next level.

    Cons

Our section of Redwood City is stuck between a Sizzler, Kohls, and Applebee's. There's nothing trendy or interesting about the immediate surroundings if your interested in socializing after hours. Downtown RWC is decent if you're willing to walk/drive down though.

The office environment is not family friendly, it's unclear/opaque if children of staff are welcome to visit.

Overall it's a workplace with multiple teams and varying work cultures. One engineer's experience is going to be vastly different than a marketing team or QA team member. (This is not a bad thing)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Goal setting as of late has been helpful - company is poised for a (hopefully) great 2015. Thanks

I worked at Evernote full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Leadership is very transparent. CEO is very friendly, you just have to go talk to him and get to know him. Very good perks, company always does the right thing for its users.

    Cons

No real cons, you have to love the product to believe in the vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the departments are run by inexperienced product managers completely. Engineers should be given more control and technical people should be valued more.

I worked at Evernote full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Very smart team, doing good work, with very little ego and no jerks. The products aren’t ad-based, and users trust and love the service, so you’re always working directly to improve peoples' experiences. The work environment is quick-moving and startup-like, but largely feels flexible and “adult”, a great change of pace from some startup environments. Your co-workers will be busy, interesting, and engaged. More than anywhere else I’ve worked, Evernote is populated by really nice folks who are easy to work with

Recent high-level sharpening of the product positioning is very promising. In fact, the whole executive team generally is highly intelligent, approachable, and leads well, navigating sophisticated businesses and opportunities. The leadership is also generally transparent with the team, and values integrity and the right-thing-to-do, both externally and internally.

Good work-life amenities: gym, classes, etc, and smart perks like transport subsidies and a sort of global inter-office exchange program.

    Cons

If you don’t live in the immediate area, the location can be something of a bummer, but Redwood City is relatively central and from SF it’s about as easy a commute as you’ll get to the valley.

Fundamentally, Evernote makes productivity software and wants to be best at it. This is noble work, but if you’re looking for a crazy, go-go social-mobile startup scene/vibe, Evernote may feel a little more traditional to you.

I have been working at Evernote full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I've felt challenged yet supported through my first year at Evernote. The managers, directors and VPs on the technical side are intelligent, capable, and understanding (haven't had much interaction with the non-technical managers). Everyone is intensely focused on their work, and tries to live up to the high expectations of management, which I appreciate. Literally no one I've met is coasting. Love the perks, like a basically free electric car, Caltrain pass, and, especially, Tea Time Tuesdays. And, sushi for lunch on a regular basis.

    Cons

The location, while a short walk from the Caltrain station, is a really difficult commute for most people in SF. There's a shuttle bus with limited stops in the city, so if you're close to that or close to Caltrain, you're set. Would love to see a satellite office in SF!

You can tell this company is rapidly growing, and has very typical growing pains. People make mistakes, but I haven't seen many big ones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Generally keep doing what you're doing. It's obviously been working, as you have a smart, hard-working team and a great culture. Continue to look for ways to keep the staff engaged, as the team is everything. New employees sometimes have a hard time integrating... consider holding meet-and-greet events for new employees to help people get to know them.

I have been working at Evernote full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - Fantastic engineering teams that work together well and believe in Evernote's mission
    - Top-notch core engineering team and a brilliant CTO who take the time to mentor other team members. You will learn a lot.
    - There is very little bureaucracy and it's easy to get things done fast
    - There's always a new project happening, so you're almost never treading water or bored.
    - Plenty of opportunity to contribute your ideas and have them be listened to no matter where you are in the company

    Cons

    - It's not a place to work if you want a 40-hour work week. Almost everyone works long hours.
    - The pace of projects can make it hard to find sufficient time to improve bugs in the product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees have a lot of faith in you and you've steered us right so far. Keep up the good work; make sure that you pay enough attention to raising the quality on the existing product as launching new features.

I have been working at Evernote full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working at Evernote is the unique opportunity to build products with a team of people driven to make are users smarter and better at whatever they want to do.

The company is small enough that each person has the ability to contribute meaningfully. You work with amazing, intelligent, enthusiastic coworkers every day and have the chance to have a huge impact on the product and the business in a positive way.

The pay is good and the benefits are great. It's an open company and culture so you know a lot about what's going on and feel very involved. It's easy to get pulled into high impact projects if you're smart and have shown you like to work hard.

The leadership team has a lot of trust in one another after working together for years, which keeps the politics and bullsh*t to a minimum. The CTO is one of the smartest people I've ever spoken with and also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and the CEO is a visionary. Several times I've walked away from conversations with him shaking my head like, "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about," only to be proven wrong a year later at the enormous success of something that initially sounded unachievable.

Most importantly I genuinely like and respect the people I get to work with, a lot of whom have become close friends. It's a treat going into work and getting stuff done with people you'd choose to hang out with even when it's not Weds evening and you're trying to get a web release out the door.

    Cons

After a couple months of awesome lunches you end of saying douchey things like, didn't we just have Tacolicious two weeks ago?
