Love this company

Associate Research Scientist I (Former Employee)
South San Francisco, CA

I worked at Exelixis full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat place for personal development. Company culture was fantastic. Many opportunities to grow and expand.

ConsNew management is only concerned with their ego, not employee welfare. Company is struggling to maintain any morale. People are seen as head count, not personally.

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople don't care about how much you know, until they know about how much you care. Please make a conscious effort to show caring, not just bottom lines.

I worked at Exelixis

ProsA fast paced Bio-Pharma company that has excellent R&D capabilities and a proven track record for developing novel compounds to treat cancer and metabolic diseases. Challenging work environment and challenging work.

ConsBecause the company does not have any products out on the market it must rely on raising capital by licensing out it's technology, selling stock or borrowing. In these economic times, these are three difficult things to do which can create job uncertainty and instability. The company recently laid off 40% of it's work force.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management needs to work on outlicensing it's technology and raising employee moral after the recent RIF which devastated the company.

ProsGreat people, great managers, great experience. I have learned a lot while at Exelixis.

ConsPay is not competitive, revolving door. I truly feel if Exelixis paid a bit better people would stay longer.

Advice to Senior ManagementI have no advice or complaints about the management.

Love it.

Senior Scientist (Current Employee)

I have been working at Exelixis

ProsThe work is fast-paced and very interesting. My colleagues treat me and each other with respect. Competence rules, with little or no deadwood. Senior management has my full trust and respect. I believe they are doing a great job of moving the company forward and that we will ultimately be successful with multiple compounds. Benefits are excellent, with lots of support for work/life balance. Just a great place.

ConsThe company is still pre-commercial; there is no revenue stream other than that from partners. Despite the relatively large pipeline, the company could still fail if multiple trials go badly or much too slowly.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo faster! I know its not realistic given how fast we move already, but everyone wants to see our compounds move through the clinic as quickly as possible.
