I worked at Expeditors as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They do have very good systems and processes.

    Cons

    Too many to recount here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

These problems come from the very top of the company.

I have been working at Expeditors as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You will gain experience that will help you gain employment with a company that cares about their employes. Besides that there are no pros.

    Cons

Claims to be a temp to hire company but will not hire you. They will even make you attend training classes about how to get hired on but in the end will only keep you as a temp. Pay is below industry standards. No chance of advancement. Will force you to work long hours. No benefits because you are only a temp. I have seen many good workers get fired not because they did something wrong but because the manager did not like them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't keep people as temps, hire them on full-time.

Low pay, bad management style, no salary increase with promotions, low moral

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Some people are nice
-Their softwares are up to date
-A good place to start off for ~1 years of experience into the field of logistics (would not recommend wasting time to stay longer)

    Cons

-Terrible trainings with people who do not care about what they are teaching but do it just to get in their yearly 52 hours requirement
    -Documentation all over the place
-NO SALARY INCREASE with promotions. Moving from Level I to Level II means nothing financially. If you stay around for 2 years you'd be guaranteed a 'promotion'
-Salary increase is at max ~3k/year in the beginning. Less so as you work there longer. The difference between a good and a bad analyst is ~3-5k. Worthless to work hard. Just do average work and you get the same salary increase.
    -Low moral
    -No team building
-Expects analysts to be flexible with hours for international clients but salary not justified
-Salaried pay but management watches the clock on in/out time. You get a talkin' to even if late by 10 minutes. Can never come in late but they expect you to put in extra hours often
-Vacation is 10 days for year 1-2, 15 days for year 3-10. That's right, from year 3 to year 10, you only get 15 days of vacation. Paid time off does not exist even for family emergencies/injuries
-Developers should avoid this company - You get paid in the 40k range starting off. That's pretty low for a development position in Seattle
-People in supervisor positions that are not capable. They've got supervisors who lack basic social interaction skills and can't communicate to their employees.
    -No flextime

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Highly consider pay raise with promotion. Every other company at your level does it.
-Take more time to work on how to bring up team spirit instead of watching the clock on when they come in.
-Management wonders why they can't find good developers to hire? PAY THEM MORE like every other company.

I have been working at Expeditors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

NONE AND I AM NOT KIDDING

    Cons

This is the the worst job I've had in my entire life. High degree of Nepotism and dishonest management are a staple at my branch. People will only get promoted if they are part of the IN CROWD; hard working people are overlooked for promotions. No incentives of any kind. Many people at my branch haven't had a raise in years. All employees in my department are constantly micro-managed by all levels of management. We are often treated like uneducated children regardless of age or education degree. Unless, you are friends with management, you are getting NO WHERE. Absolutely no room for growth. Employees are overworked and underpaid. HIGH EMPLOYEE TURNOVER. They have a year round trainer. GO FIGURE?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. This is a loss cause.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-If you love to dress up then join up!
-People get promoted within their year mark. (If you aren't promoted or they haven't given you a timeline by then, save yourself the trouble and quit immediately).
    -Nice benefits.

    Cons

-Mandatory 10-12 hour work days during peak seasons, july-december.
-Brain-dead work, no thinking or creative input is required as it is also undesired.
-If you weren't hired into the fraternity, you will be treated like a peasant as you will also be required to do all the work.
-Company includes integrity and honesty as part of it's, "culture," yet has neither.
-Majority of employees dislike management lowering employee potential.
-People pass off work constantly if you know multiple tasks. (Learn to reject additional work until you finish whatever major task you were working on, unless you can handle both and have the time to complete both).
-Company flatlines and still believes people will move up as fast as when it was growing.
-Initiative is undesired, as you will be undermining supervisors and managers that cannot take credit.
    -Blatant favoritism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-It's so ironic that you come at people with hostility, talk bad about and to people, then suddenly bring together a meeting on how your employees need to have honesty and integrity. Maybe try setting an example?

I have been working at Expeditors full-time

    Pros

Currently have several open positions. (one might ask why)

    Cons

Some say management is cleaning house. Some say it's border line age discrimnation and other say its just poor leadership. If you are not part of the boys club you won't last long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

House cleaning needs to start with head management or lack there of, or things will NEVER change. You can fire people and the smart ones move on but at the end of the day you are the one left with egg on your face and down another "GOOD" employee. Down seven people in the last six months, doesn't that raise a flag?

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They allow travel and pay relocations

    Cons

They tell you to fit into their company culture like it was some sort of dogma. Would not recommend this to anyone who is a free thinker. Robots would work well here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the "company culture" Mr. Rose, and stop disparaging people who have their MBA, just because you are H.S. graduate and that's it doesn't mean you can walk all over everyone sir!

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Hours are consistent, professional work environment.

    Cons

Poor management (police state and accusatory point of view), too many pointless meetings (flavor of the week approach), zero flexibility in type of work (day-to-day tasks become tedious quite quickly), few growth opportunities, success is solely dependent on how much your supervisor likes you as a person and how well you submit to and prompt the Department’s peculiarities; success is not based on quality of work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house at the supervisor level, increase your hiring standards, do not provide third and forth chances to poor performers, raise compensation to competitive levels (no, the company provided benefits do not justify the lower pay (also, the company provided benefits are pretty standard – stop touting them as being great.)).

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Being my first job out of college, it helped me avoid many of the career pitfalls that I might have experienced later...because I went through them first at Expeditors.

    Cons

From a clinical point of view, it's a pretty efficient model: Take smart, motivated young people. Fill them with promises of career advancement so that they'll work extremely hard and long hours (often illegally off the clock), pay them well below industry standard and then promote the very few based on favoritism...unconnected with their actual abilities. Truly the worst work experience of my life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The employees are the most important function of any service industry. When you treat them with the bare minimum of respect, pay the bare minimum wages, and then have a culture that expects to be thanked for it, you will only ever get middle tier employees which, unfortunately, may be all you need.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The stellar pro for Expeditors' employees is the no lay off policy and its health benefits. Those benefits should come in handy to the majority of the smokers.

    Cons

Management. How many supervisors does one department need? Too many people just distributing work to others and not enough people doing actual work.
Communication. Mixed messages, no communication from closed door meetings. Expectations change without you knowing it then get blamed for not knowing...
Monthly branch meetings about the millions in revenue/profit yet desk level employees don't see a dime.
There is a lack of is a lack of integrity and honesty despite it being part of the cultural values.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees -- Throw them a bone. Lots of people are very dissatisfied as shown from the anonymous survey recently. Clarify your performance review/raises and administer them consistently and timely. Is it performance or responsibility based?
