I have been working at Expeditors

    Pros

Expeditors has good benefits, family covered at no charge. An Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and 401k matching up to $1500.

    Cons

Vacation policy is dated, compensation is below the industry level, particularly for the IT fields.

I worked at Expeditors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people and the benefits are great.

    Cons

There is very little flexibility. Not many holidays, sick leave only went up to bare minimum now required by Seattle law. You have to clock in and out and are not allowed to flex your time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your leave policies more competitive. Get rid of the clocking and allow for flex time.

I worked at Expeditors as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits (if you become full time), positive work environment and friendly co-workers all slightly make up for the work of an intern. They have good management, but only promote from within. The constant training is something I think they excel in, however, a lot of it only caters to Expeditors' needs.

    Cons

As an intern you are treated as a temp. Just sent to a desk on day 1, given basic instruction and checked in on periodically. Mistakes are pointed out constantly and the company tries pretty hard to avoid social interactions on company time. As an Intern I worked overtime nearly every day during "peak" season, which was a majority of the time I was there. The starting salary is not competitive, but they generally promise fast advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on a smooth and slow transition out of tradition and into modernization. The intern process needs a huge revamping if retention is of any concern.

I have been working at Expeditors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of room for growth, lots to learn. Expeditors promotes training, learning by doing, and gives you freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.

    Cons

Low entry-level salary. Lots of inefficiencies come with being a 3rd party logistics provider, and it gets tedious.
