Administrator keeps under budget to get bonus checks and makes staff go without.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStaff stretched way too thin. If salaried, given several added duties. Job description and duties frequently changed at the whim of the administrator. Call duties and weekends and working all three shifts became mandatory after hire for a full time day position.

Cons"It's Not in the budget". Had to buy and pay for my own office supplies and materials, and provided supplies used even by administrator without being reimbursed.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet employees evaluate their administrator and DON yearly to be reviewed by Upper Management and base bonuses on tis rather than on budgets.

Horrible management causes stressful environment and high turnover rate in staff

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Oconomowoc, WI

ProsFairly new building makes for a nice environment to be surrounded with. The Folks who reside there are awesome!

ConsManagement is absent in the facility. Almost feels as though there is no leadership and all of the employees are left to fend for themselves. A fun motivating team atmosphere is not to be found here. Somber and stress are the only words I can think of to describe the barometer in the building. No annual reviews or pay increases to be found here either. Bare bones training for new staff. Everyone is expected to know all of the roles in the facility making for a confusing misappropriation of skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementRestructure the management team as it seems as though the company struggles with getting things done in an efficient smooth operating facility. Too much micromanaging which is unnecessary and makes everyone feel uneasy and unmotivated to do well. Annual reviews and pay raises are just part of what makes a company great and great to work for.

Have been with this company a short time, and I am very disappointed!

    DON (Current Employee)

ProsFrontline staff are the best and are the ones who need all the praise. The staff nurses and CNAs truly put their heart into the job!

ConsMicromanagement is beyond belief! If you are a department head you might as well just plan on pushing papers and attending meetings. Cooperate does all the decision making for you! Autonomy does not exists with this company and the company truly does not care about the staff or residents, but only $$$$$$!!!! I am disgusted with this company!

Advice to Senior ManagementSeriously wake up!

    Worst work experience ever.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe people at Pro-Step MIGHT actually care about the patient.

ConsFilthy, Disgusting, Unclean, No concern for patient safety, a warm body fills a bed. Ever hears of gloves, hand-washing, or antiseptic anything. Horrible patient:provider ratios. Bulldoze all of the facilities and the communities will be better off starting from scratch. The saddest cases are the ones that are able to present a somewhat clean exterior because some unsuspecting family will think their loved one is in a "good" place. Unfortunately they will stay in business for a long time because there are many who need Medicaid beds. Just call it what it is. These are not clean, caring, rehab facilities or even nursing homes. They are shelters.

    My worst employment experience

    Director (Former Employee)
    Milwaukee, WI

ProsMy salary was the only good thing I experienced during my time with Extendicare. Otherwise everything else about Extendicare was toxic.

ConsManagement is negative. I never saw anything more than "head in the bed" directive from management. No focus on revenue enhancement, patient care, or quality case mix.

    Nightmare

    Life Enrichment (Current Employee)

ProsThe only thing that I can come up with is that the facility was close to home

ConsEverything--poor management, no training, too many meetings, too little time to spend with residents. The worst long term care facitlity that I've worked in.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more staff. Train management how to work WITH staff (maybe a Dale Carnegie course?)

    Very Disappointing....

    Dietary Aide (Current Employee)
    Golden Valley, MN

ProsSome VERY good staff and love to care for these awesome residents, which may be the reason why I'm still there....

ConsIf you are in the Military (National Guard), don't work here.... Every time I had to take my weekend off to serve my country, I would get some form of retaliation (Disciplined for something obtuse or majorly cut hours). What really upsets me is my Administrator was very ensuring that there would be an investigation....but these issues still happen to this day.....nobody cares really....other than having all the beds filled....

Advice to Senior ManagementNot everyone who isn't in a management position is an idiot....Listen to your senior employees....enforce rules/regulations fairly....follow up on any employee concerns, that's part of your job!...

    Nightmare of a Company

    Activity Director (Current Employee)
    Edmonds, WA

ProsThe only thing going for this company are the wonderful residents!

ConsThis company does not play by the rules and will do anything illegal if they can get away with it
in regards to treating their employees..

I was a Life Enrichment Director

    Life Enrichment Director (Former Employee)
    Toledo, OH

    ProsGreat Staff, and Co-Workers AMEN!

    ConsNeed to question the Administration

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep your good staff, and start questioning your Administrators! You have Administrators that are bringing moral down so much, you don't do anything about it. There is no one to talk to either, for the RDO, forwards your emails to the Administrator, ACTIVITY DIRECTORS ARE THERE TO DO THE FUN THINGS WITH THE PATIENTS! NOT TO DO MARKETING!
