I have been working at Exterran full-time for less than a year

    Pros

salary and benefits, traveling, diversity and company culture. You have multiple opportunities to develop your career and getting exposed to high level managers from both the company and client sides

    Cons

There is a high turnover rate on employees and high level executives, changes in hr policies, lack of support from upper/mid management, frequent layoffs due to restructuring and changes, remote management from executives based on the middle east

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Exterran full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Short commute from my home. Like the people I interact with the most. My opinion counts for the most part.

    Cons

Compensation and benefits are below standard for a O/G company. The IT management is dysfunctional to say the least. Too dependent on the Oracle ERP, which is laughable how bad the implementation was and continues to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of most of the IT management. Stop charging for internal IT services, as this will allow the business and IT to work closer together to get efficient applications developed.

I have been working at Exterran full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There is a lot to learn, always busy, no real signs of slowing down no matter the position taken. Lots of chances to shine if you're willing to put in the work, and take the overtime.

    Cons

Overwork good employees, overlook the bad ones.

    Insurance is expensive

    No suggestions or input accepted

Organization is a myth and teamwork doesn't exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are too many good employees and too much great knowledge at hand to run a company this poorly.

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good place to learn other areas of the business. Great co-workers. 9/80 was a great perk.

    Cons

No accountability from other teams when working on a project. Communication is lacking from middle and upper management. Hiring/promotion nepotism adopted within the past 2 years; hiring outside versus promoting with-in. No upward mobility career path. Entrenched complacent middle management with little desire for change. Very few knowledgeable project managers; projects seldom complete on time. Salary increases are below government COLA index. Long hours without compensation, financially or other. Elimination of 9/80 work week based on a few that took advantage of the perk; instead of punishing the few, the entire company lost the perk. Gallup poll has not improved over the years; why waste money on Gallup when middle and upper management do not make changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice will not help as recommendations are not heeded. The answers are there and have been communicated but are not acted on.

Former Employee - Business Development Manager in Almaty (Kazakhstan)

I worked at Exterran full-time for more than a year

    Pros

For me it was only widening of my business relations in the country, I visited all sites, knew people who really operated the equipment, their needs. Intensive travelling with the good logistics.

    Cons

Had a big potential to develop the business in Kazakhstan, but the CIS management made all to ruine it, they never had a discussion about the real situation and needed only nice reports how we are doing well. Promotions are only to people who personally loyal to the manager not to the Company, all talanted people left, teamwork was not appreciated. Stupid product development policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It will take a lot of efforts to put the Company's position back to where it was and win more deals and customers. They don't believe again as when I broke the wall and turned them back. The preference will go to your competition. Crysis is not an excuse.

I have been working at Exterran

    Pros

Peers are great - like a family over the years I have worked there

    Cons

Don't like to promote from within; very political and narrow minded management in the accounting/finance area; don't recognize job well done and the many hours put in by employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at some of the managers you have in place - maybe solicit anonymous feedback from employees about their managers so you get honest feedback - you will be amazed at what people thing about some of the managers you have in place
