    Still Growing Up

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAn industry leader by size that is hungry to lead and set the tone in the industry; the company continues to mature and grow into it's position in the market. The company has significant financial strength and is growing increasingly willing to yield that strength.

ConsSystems, processes and infrastructure remain immature for a company of it's size. Middle management and below 'on boarding' processes are developing but remain fundamental at best. Middle management and above employee orientation relies heavily on immediate leadership (in many cases immediate leaders do not understand the importance of time spent on this guidance).

Advice to Senior ManagementMaintain unwaivering focus on development of systems, processes and infrastructure development.
Push the envelope on risk tolerance and significantly increase the speed of decision making relating to regular course of business transactions.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    A place to learn...then leave.

    Human Resources Coordinator (Former Employee)

ProsThere are great managers at Exterran. You can learn a lot from them, if your willing to put in the work.

ConsYou should learn all you can in the first 3-5 years, then leave for better. They over work thier great employees. The pay is not great, okay for entry level.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to look at your pay grades & ranges. They are way too low for the Oil & Gas Services industry.

Great coworkers and supervisor, management has little idea how to retain experienced employees

    Business Technology (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsMy coworkers were fun to work with and my supervisor was flexible and reasonable. I learned a lot working with the other teams.

Good place to start, not a good place to build a career.

ConsNo mobility within the company. Management smiles and nods with palpable apathy toward employee input.

Raises and promotions are far and wide. Benefits are mediocre at best.

Large projects are rushed and result in a lot of contractors being hired on at a moment's notice with no input or participation from tenured employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt costs more in both money and lost productivity to hire and train new employees rather than throw a little more toward your current ones. Lack of employee input in projects makes working at Exterran feel like an exercise in futility and frustation, as employees lose out on career building opportunities.

Nice place to work, but sad people doesn't get recognized

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Broussard, LA

ProsGreat opportunity to grow, nice people to work with, easy flexible enviroment.

ConsExceptional great employees does not get compensated for what they worth. They are keep at low salaries and eventually leave the company with all the knowledge.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at those employees that you will rehire them if they were on the street looking for job, and re adjust their salary to the current market.

    Exterran could be great.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsIt may be a large organization but you can get to know a lot of people and make many professional connections.

ConsThere are times when I find upper management's incompetence annoying. They hire people from overseas rather than people from America. Want to move up the ranks?...it probably won't happen.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your act together. Your best are leaving.

Things have gone from good to sour.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

Pros-Exterran really cares about it's customers.
    -They area family friendly.
    -They love what they do.

Cons-It's a shame that Exterran has decided to hire outside the company rather than within. The persons who have been hired for upper management positions have added a greater burden to the regular employees because they have no idea what they are doing.
-They also hurt moral by not allowing for basic perks. For example, for some reason they hold off on bonus' and raises until after the holidays.
-Upper management is so disengaged that they are too busy to make an apprearance at the annual family picnic they host.
-Stocks are low...and so is moral.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring folks that are your pals and start hiring the folks who have given their all to you...your employees.

Exterran says the people is the most important just like every other company. It needs to walk the talk.

    Accountant (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGreat office environment. The building itself is nice to work at. Management are competent at what they do and company events are great to mingle with one another.

ConsThere is much work needed for the management to walk the talk and really make the whole headquarter work like a team. They also needs to figure out increase the depth of work to empower people to do more.

Advice to Senior Managementtreat everyone like a valuable asset in the company. The company will receive the reward. It starts by making new employee feel welcome and make field worker feel important.
