Great place to start, getting ahead is about who you know

Completion Engineer (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsStrong training program, great experience early on

ConsAll about how much your supervisor likes you, if you get stuck with a weak one who will not fight for you your ranking will not go well no matter your performance. Evaluations and raises are very secretive, not really sure why things go the way they do and its all about who you know in the company that gets you ahead. Horrible retention rate at this company of young engineers.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunication is a problem in this company, make sure you reward those who work hard and not just the ones who play the game

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsThey have a pension plans and fringe benefits...they also challenge you on a day basis!!

Great monetary compensation, but lacking in other areas

Corrosion Engineer (Current Employee) Baton Rouge, LA

ProsHigh Salaries, Great coworkers, Very diverse workforce, Excellent retirement benefits, Allows employees to quickly move up the ranks, Very safety oriented environment

ConsPoor hours, Little to no recognition, No transparent ranking system, Employees do not control their own moves within the company, Superficial improvement programs, "Good Old Boy" mentality, Out of date benefits

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are promoted too quickly and without the proper training to be able to lead efficient teams. This leads to a poor managing system all the way up the chain of command. Additionally, the work hours are not comparable to the rest of the industry leaders. It seems as if the benefits have not been updated for the younger workforce and are still geared to the baby-boomer generation.

IT Analyst (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsStable and ability to rotate positions every 3-5 years.

Good company but has employee issues.

    Supervisor (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsJob security and benefits. Advancement opportunities.

ConsExxonMobil does not pay competitively with other oil companies. Secretive and political ranking system for employees, at some point in your career you will be last and it can happen more than once.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the rank system and don't compare my salary to an airplane engineer for compensation and then tell me I'm well compensated.
