I worked at ExxonMobil International full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excellent company, great benefits and pay.

    Cons

Very unfair rating and ranking system, very corporate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the evaluation system to be more fair and equitable for all. Employees should have opportunity to apply for job openings within company website instead of only through your manager, who may to be unfair and you leave company without other opportunities.

I worked at ExxonMobil International as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Easy work for good pay, very loyal company and want loyal people

    Cons

The culture is conservative, slow, republican-leaning, risk-averse...work was not intellectually stimulating because positions are very siloed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop separating yourself from the employees into the "god pod"

I have been working at ExxonMobil International

    Pros

Professional work atmosphere. Amount of team support given on a project is pretty good. If you are in the "club" you could get to work all over the world.

    Cons

So far the employees are professional and overall intelligent. However the expectations are very high and often times unrealistic, leading to large amounts of stressful situations. Advancement for younger employees is often times controlled by managers with not much experience in managing people. When you first start working they will start determining the highest you will ever move up in the company, which makes it hard to break some preconceived mold they put you in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Never stop investing in your employees, and always give raises, which often times are the only way to know for sure if you are Doing a good job or not. Be more open with your teams and less of an elite attitude toward others would go a long way toward relationship building.

    Pros

Job security, moderate pace, low stress

    Cons

Nobody listens until you have been there for 5 years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start being less obsessed about "safety" at the workplace. More innovation, more fresh blood and less bureaucracy. . . .

    Current Employee - Systems Analyst

I have been working at ExxonMobil International full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Pays well, opportunity for travel

    Cons

Very bureaucratic and boring. Focus on process rather than product. Best to do nothing rather than do something wrong. The secret to success is to be totally hands off. Overrun with administrators and advisors. For every person doing work, there is someone watching them. Over the years they have become erratic. At one point they set long term strategies, now they seem to swing wildly. One day it's an extreme process orientation, next day, cut costs, next day security and controls.
