I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They have a pension plans and fringe benefits...they also challenge you on a day basis!!

    Cons

They compare you to all employees and give you a ranking which is so archaic and not motivating...nobody wants to hate their coworker and ranking against one another is not cool

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

High Salaries, Great coworkers, Very diverse workforce, Excellent retirement benefits, Allows employees to quickly move up the ranks, Very safety oriented environment

    Cons

Poor hours, Little to no recognition, No transparent ranking system, Employees do not control their own moves within the company, Superficial improvement programs, "Good Old Boy" mentality, Out of date benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People are promoted too quickly and without the proper training to be able to lead efficient teams. This leads to a poor managing system all the way up the chain of command. Additionally, the work hours are not comparable to the rest of the industry leaders. It seems as if the benefits have not been updated for the younger workforce and are still geared to the baby-boomer generation.

Current Employee - Supervisor in Houston, TX

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Job security and benefits. Advancement opportunities.

    Cons

ExxonMobil does not pay competitively with other oil companies. Secretive and political ranking system for employees, at some point in your career you will be last and it can happen more than once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the rank system and don't compare my salary to an airplane engineer for compensation and then tell me I'm well compensated.

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Research freedom relatively high compared to other industries & competitors
High caliber colleagues (technically and morally)
    Safest place on earth
    Very stable

    Cons

Ranking process is highly political, not based on performance or impact
Pay is 'just enough to keep you' according to Senior Management
    Employees not valued by management
No good locations (e.g., Houston, Houston, Houston)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are human beings. The ranking process is biased and discourages 70% of the workforce and makes them despise what otherwise would be a great company (Note: this comment comes from someone ranked in the top 1/3).

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

The best healthcare benefits. Different options to take time off or work part time. Good for working mother with moderate career goals (not for VP to be working moms). College graduate advance pretty fast.

    Cons

Company culture is very conservative and arrogant. The environment is extremely competitive. Performance evaluation process is very subjective; ranking can be very unfair if your boss doesn't fight for you. In XOM you can be just a number, it's toooooooo big.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change the ranking system.
Copy the best from other companies (Google, Apple, etc.) Need to innovate more
Don't favor High Profile employees only.

I have been working at ExxonMobil

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

    Work life balance
    Low stress
    Challenging problems

    Cons

    Process-oriented.
Creativity and innovation face inertial barriers.
Employee satisfaction is a low priority.
Relative ranking is based on reputation and extracurriculars (safety, united way), not work accomplishments.
