    Great company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood company to work for, great work culture, good work-life balance. Interesting product line up, small teams so better visibility.

ConsMost of the good and interesting work happens at Seattle. If you are working in other offices, don't expect to do a lot of interesting work.

Company is looking for the right strategy

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood legacy products keeping the major market share, outstanding benefits, motivated engineering staff.

ConsNo clear strategy for the future (or at least poorly communicated), insufficient professional level in certain areas/groups, lack of clear and robust development processes, collaboration tools are below industry standards, growing amount of the politics. The development force is severely understaffed which brings the slow pace of addressing important issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf the strategy is not clarified and the staff is properly organized and focused, it may hurt the company in near future. Improve the development and approval processes, and collaboration tools. Value strategically thinking people and watch the level of company bureaucracy.

    Management has lost their way

Senior Network Support Engineer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsHighly skilled employees that are often great to work with.
Many opportunities to develop detailed skills in interesting technologies

ConsEmployees are worked to the point of exhaustion because hiring practices are based on sales not workload. In fact, they often don't even fully track workload across the organization.
The business groups don't talk to each other and it feels like there is no coherent organizational plan.
Middle and upper management only provide lip service to taking steps to correct ongoing issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt takes a long time to become good at this job and it is a mistake to force people out with indifference and inattention.

Company of smart engineers and deep technology

    Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

    ProsInteresting technology domain
part of culture is to be open to making non-trivial changes to the product(s), when makes sense of course, i.e. not conservative engineering environment.
    Smart engineers, helping each other.

ConsThis is very engineering focused company, with very good engineers.
Make sure externally hired managers do not degrade the culture and qualities outlined in Pros.

Internal infrastructure could be more efficient.

    F5 has a bright future, but ...

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsAccelerated professional growth (you must drive that, not your manager), individual contributors can make an impact, terrific benefits, smart people, fun and hardworking culture, innovative environment

ConsLiterally no departmental collaboration (silos), short-term focused, terrible hiring approach (you may be interviewing for a job but there's no guarantee there's budget to make an offer, verbal offers can be retracted based on quarterly earnings), middle-managers don't seem to care about employees, zero on-boarding process/procedures, complex product line, overall experiencing growing pains

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more concern for your people, including potential candidates who are making career decisions.

People stay here for a reason...

    Principal Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsInteresting and challenging problems to solve, extremely smart, yet humble co-workers, good compensation and work-life balance. As a developer, I've learned a lot and worked with some of the best and brightest.

ConsInterview process could be improved to be more structured an consistent (speaking only from a developer in PD) -- this would help F5 continue to find the best people and also make it a better experience for interviewees.

Like may multi-office companies, discord between offices sometimes gets out of hand.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhile the problems are challenging and interesting, sometimes they are just incremental changes to an already very successful product or model. What are we going to do next to change the world?

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
