    Pros

Great co-workers are devoted to making an excellent product. Talented people really know their stuff.

    Cons

Even though the company is profitable and actively hiring, they are quick to lay people off without warning. Morale is low and people are scared of losing their job.

    Pros

Company is in growth mode due to under penetrated sector so it has plenty of opportunity to expand. Good work ethics and friendly co worker. Good compensation package and benefit. The technology is robust and relevant.

    Cons

Recent new layer upper management is out of touch. Leaders seems unsure of what direction to take. Lack of vision especially in the product management. Technical leaders doesn't have any solid ground to day to day operation. The big growth has cost them innovation and it's reactionary response rather than proactively looking for technological advancement.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your team strength and invest in them and see the big picture. Looking good in the balance sheet is not sustainable for long term growth.

    Pros

FARO is in a sweet spot for a growing public company. The barriers to entry in its industry are very high, the number of competitors is very low, and its products are among the best in class for what they do. Not surprisingly therefore, the company enjoys very high gross margins and uses those margins to drive more R&D activity and to fund a M&A pipeline that will likely bear some fruit in the coming years. FARO's benefits plan is fairly good, but compensation is about average.

    Cons

Political strife in the leadership team runs rampant, and this stress creates a competitive environment that is unhealthy. FARO's CEO is a hands-off leader, whose greatest strength is public speaking, but who is not involved enough to address (or perhaps even see) the problems his relatively new leadership team has created. The America's managing director is a micro-manager that lacks sensitivity and compassion for her employees. I would rate attrition risk high right now.

    Advice to Management

The CEO's direct reports are not getting along, and something needs change there. An effort needs to be made to reverse the tide of discontent that is seeping into FARO's bones. More events and programs designed to make employees feel appreciated and respected would also be a benefit.

    Pros

I have a lot of autonomy.

    Cons

Management is so concerned with quantity, that the quality of the hardware and the software is appalling. The product management is disastrous, and the lack of design, planning, quality assurance, and testing cost FARO millions in customer service, training, documentation, lost customers, and tarnished reputation.

    Advice to Management

Try and use the software. Hire some project managers.

    Pros

Good pay and benefit structure but watch your back when times are slow

    Cons

No matter how talented or successful you may be your time is limited.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and hang on to talented and successful individuals in good times and bad. Markets are cyclical when the down times are over your talent is gone.

    Pros

FARO used to be a very well run company. However they tried to move to quickly into a 1000+ employee company, and due to the economic downturn of 2008/2009 they got into trouble

    Cons

The leadership of FARO is questionably capable at their job, yes in good times they can manage, however in bad times, clearly they can not.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to retain talent during recessionary periods and don't resort to knee jerk reactions. The job security of your account managers is just as important as your bottom line.
