I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

    Pros

Good pay, fair overtime policies, and good benefit program. Most people are willing to help you and want the company to do well overall.

    Cons

Long hours a requirement for management personnel. Some workers have a high sense of entitlement and many people work hard to do as little as possible instead of working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less micro-management and more effort on having everyone to legitimately buy in to company values/WCM.

    Pros

I like the campus, - it has beautiful architecture and allows many departments in one building, which is nice if you are part of cross-functional team. Pay is OK, benefits are pretty good. Some really nice people work here.

    Cons

Some really NOT nice people work here as well. The place is drowning in politics, especially after the Italian take over. People get promoted based on friendship, not based on skills/ contribution. There is no clear vision or solid structure. People are purposely given overlapping responsibilities, which creates chaos and frustration. If you are lucky and have a decent manager, then you might be somewhat happy at work; otherwise, you are miserable. And there are MANY miserable people here...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put your action where your words are. We hear wonderful things and promises from podiums and TV screens, but your actions say something totally else...

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is the best you can find in my area without a degree. Currently topped out at 19.28 and hour with 5% shift premium for working nights. 6:00pm-4:30am wed-sat. Decent amount of overtime offered as Chrysler sales have been ever increasing over the last several years. 3 bonuses paid out every year. Health/dental/vision insurance is included in your pay, therefore it doesn't cost you anything out of your take home pay. Stress is minimal as a line worker. Any time being laid off is reimbursed at nearly 90% of a 40 hour week. Tuition assistance available to you up to $5000 a year.

    Cons

Hours are inconvenient. Attendance is very rigid and inflexible. Being an assembly line you aren't able to leave early if need be unless it is an emergency... Even then it is not a given. Bathroom is limited to when your team leader is able to relieve you or wait til break. Vacation time is minimal. No sick days. Constant job eliminations, resulting in work constantly being added onto. Then of course you have the UAW which is notorious for supporting only the most frivolous employees. Also as a union worker there is no room for promotion within the company. Although I will admit if you attain a degree, you have a foot in the door to obtaining a management position. Most importantly the work performed is detrimental to the condition of your body. Especially with recent increases in workload, this is a job I could see working for a maximum of maybe 10 years while maintaining a properly functioning body.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe a more flexible work schedule would minimize attendance issues and rampant abuse of FMLA not to mention morale.

Don't be afraid to get rid of the troublesome/lazy employees, most coworkers would be supportive of trimming off the dead weight in favor more suitable and effective team members. If you are going to pay people to do nothing put them somewhere that they aren't parading around other hardworking employees. That is very distracting and discouraging.

Having realistic expectations in workload, coupled with accountability in correctly performing job elements is something that would help with the quality issues we are currently facing.

    Good people
    Everyone works hard

    Cons

Hard to become a direct hire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should ask employees about organizational structure. It sometimes seems that we have a different perspective.

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The products that are designed HERE are great and as much OT as you want (even for salaried) is available if you are in a plant. Benefit packages are good as well.

    Cons

Again, the plants are so busy you pretty much have to work OT. Fiat is pushing its WCM, even though they are dead last in JD power. The Fiat designed products (500, Dart, 200, Cherokee) are not doing so well because they won't listen to Americans. Work-life balance is great if you are at CTC, otherwise it is awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring as many people back from AMC as possible, they are the only ones that know what a Jeep should be and how to not make compromises. Make EVERYONE at CTC rotate through a plant for at least 6 months so they have some sense of urgency. Try to get those out of a plant that want out after a year, you are losing great talent due to burnout while you keep people you shouldn't at CTC. Also, make sure your middle management actually has leadership skills before promoting them.

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

As a contract engineer, there are lots of hours available to work. Decent hourly rate for contract work, good people to work with. Good labor/management relationship.

    Cons

Work schedules are erratic, with weekend and holiday work demands at short notice. Contract work does not compensate for the holidays when the plant is shut down. The plant where I work I bring in all office supplies - pens, file folders, staples, nothing is available. My contractor does not provide enough paid vacation, only 40 hours/year. Manufacturing wastes a lot of resources relearning the same lessons. I worked in the plant for over a year without an assigned desk, sharing a space with an engineer who worked an alternate shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in quality leaders to enforce work standards. Supply reasonable office supplies. Make sure new employees and contract engineers are welcome, with work space provided, office supplies, with reasonable compensation and time off.
