I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Teams and people that I have worked with over the years have been great!

    Cons

Micro management, poor budgeting, bad timelines and trust and transparency issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to understand the business. Budget properly, and include the people who know how to develop and produce a vehicle. A lot of animosity is created when you don't justify decisions with logical explanations.

I worked at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large opportunity to have impact on product. Direct influence for designers on exterior and interior designs. Passionate and dedicated group of design office employees who love automobiles and design.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a challenge. Detroit mindset and hierarchal management style as of most major automakers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Travel, Michigan is not an accurate representation of the national or global market. Look for new ways to connect your employees to your users. Embrace change and look beyond four year product development cycle. Place a higher value on innovation.

    Pros

It's a great summer job for a college student majoring in business or engineering, with the opportunity to make enough money to sustain yourself throughout the school year.

    Cons

Horrible hours, high stress, not enough training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Spend more time on training.

    Pros

Pay! Good starting pay and always opportunity for overtime

    Cons

You work so much there is no time for family, and you will be stuck where they decide to put you. Second shift for over a year because there was "no room" on first shift, and union plays favorites.

    Pros

FCA offers competitive salary and benefits.

    Cons

Mopar Division is a hectic, disorganized place to work. The relationship between the Maintenance Department and Operations is antagonistic at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give Project Planning education and training to Operations and Maintenance to help them work together. Understand and be willing to spend money to save money. Equipment needs money to stay at its optimal potential.

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Depending on your group, there are some great people you will work with.
Fun work, interesting, almost never dull
A lot of holidays off, 2 weeks around Christmas and New Years is off.

    Cons

Upper management is pretty out of touch
Very busy/faced paced environment most of the time
A lot of corporate nonsense everyone just seems to accept
Direct Employees don't get much if anything of a bonus, and almost never get raises
Can take a looonnnggg time to go direct. Don't believe the contracting agency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to really understand the actual work done by the people you manage. Learn the current releasing process and what exactly it entails. Also RASICS look nice on paper, and that is it. DRE's end up doing almost all the work. Also there are quite a few people I think might do nothing all day long, almost everyday. That's a big loss to the company if you add up all the expenses for those people.

I worked at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (less than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is spectacular, and work-life balance as an intern was wonderful. Also, their health insurance packages are very thorough and worth the money.

    Cons

Compensation is all they have to offer. Once I was no longer a intern, work-life balance was nonexistent; whether salaried or hourly you WILL work 80+ hours and 7 days a week, every week, every month, ever year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dial back lean manufacturing a little so that people aren't suffering burn-out and health issues at such a high rate.

    Pros

Actively working to improve the internal vehicle development systems. A lot of opportunity to learn the business in many different disciplines.

    Cons

No work / life balance. The time between merit increases is significantly long. No 401K match. Advancement opportunities are limited after bankruptcy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to start compensating the employee soon. Good people have already left and more still to follow.

Current Employee - Assembly Worker in Belvidere, IL

I have been working at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is the best you can find in my area without a degree. Currently topped out at 19.28 and hour with 5% shift premium for working nights. 6:00pm-4:30am wed-sat. Decent amount of overtime offered as Chrysler sales have been ever increasing over the last several years. 3 bonuses paid out every year. Health/dental/vision insurance is included in your pay, therefore it doesn't cost you anything out of your take home pay. Stress is minimal as a line worker. Any time being laid off is reimbursed at nearly 90% of a 40 hour week. Tuition assistance available to you up to $5000 a year.

    Cons

Hours are inconvenient. Attendance is very rigid and inflexible. Being an assembly line you aren't able to leave early if need be unless it is an emergency... Even then it is not a given. Bathroom is limited to when your team leader is able to relieve you or wait til break. Vacation time is minimal. No sick days. Constant job eliminations, resulting in work constantly being added onto. Then of course you have the UAW which is notorious for supporting only the most frivolous employees. Also as a union worker there is no room for promotion within the company. Although I will admit if you attain a degree, you have a foot in the door to obtaining a management position. Most importantly the work performed is detrimental to the condition of your body. Especially with recent increases in workload, this is a job I could see working for a maximum of maybe 10 years while maintaining a properly functioning body.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe a more flexible work schedule would minimize attendance issues and rampant abuse of FMLA not to mention morale.

Don't be afraid to get rid of the troublesome/lazy employees, most coworkers would be supportive of trimming off the dead weight in favor more suitable and effective team members. If you are going to pay people to do nothing put them somewhere that they aren't parading around other hardworking employees. That is very distracting and discouraging.

Having realistic expectations in workload, coupled with accountability in correctly performing job elements is something that would help with the quality issues we are currently facing.
