Government employment is NOT lazy work

Regulatory Health Project Manager (Current Employee) Silver Spring, MD

    Pros- Flexible Work Schedule
    -Telecommuting encouraged
    - Work with smart people

Working at FDA is not a lazy government job. There are exciting things happening in the world of drug development and the results are seen firsthand in your job. If you are interested in leading edge medicine this job is for you.

    Cons-Large workload
-telecommuting expenses not reimbursed (i.e. internet, printer needs)

The new FDA campus is running out of room and employees are expected to address this issue by working at home more and giving up desk space. The planning process for the campus was not well thought out. Additionally, the workload of senior management is large and this creates a bottleneck in completing tasks. Although they are willing to delegate some items, it is by no means done enough.

Advice to Senior Management-Listen to employees needs and act on them
-Encourage more time with senior management

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have learned a lot and am allowed to be as hands on with my project as I want to be.

Research Assistant - Intern (Current Employee) Silver Spring, MD

ProsEveryone working there is extremely intelligent and they are dealing with cutting edge research with the goal of increasing the safety of new medical devices. Huge organization with plenty of opportunities in many different departments.

ConsFor my one year intern position to become a full time position it would require me to have a PhD. Availability of new positions depends on government budget.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep actively supporting local universities with internships.

Good job if you're a burnt out MD, can get boring if you're young and ambitious.

Medical Officer (Current Employee) Silver Spring, MD

ProsAbstract benefit to society which feels more palpable in the beginning

ConsIt's bread and butter regulatory work such as moving papers from the inbox to the outbox - 90% of the time. The other 10% is doing reviews.
