I have been working at FDA full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

New mandates providing new requirement occur every few years, makes for dynamic environment. Opportunities to work from home multiple days a week, mentoring, and training

    Cons

Change, as with much of government, is slow. Federal funding to support non-mandated, yet needed, programs are dependent of available fiscal funds

    Pros

Stability. Work friendly environment. Work schedule allows for work life balance because of the accrued time system.

Federal funding structure makes it difficult to acquire a full time position with the agency. You only get in through networking and paying your dues!

I have been working at FDA full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Flexible Work Schedule
    -Telecommuting encouraged
    - Work with smart people

Working at FDA is not a lazy government job. There are exciting things happening in the world of drug development and the results are seen firsthand in your job. If you are interested in leading edge medicine this job is for you.

    Cons

    -Large workload
-telecommuting expenses not reimbursed (i.e. internet, printer needs)

The new FDA campus is running out of room and employees are expected to address this issue by working at home more and giving up desk space. The planning process for the campus was not well thought out. Additionally, the workload of senior management is large and this creates a bottleneck in completing tasks. Although they are willing to delegate some items, it is by no means done enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Listen to employees needs and act on them
-Encourage more time with senior management

I have been working at FDA

    Pros

Everyone working there is extremely intelligent and they are dealing with cutting edge research with the goal of increasing the safety of new medical devices. Huge organization with plenty of opportunities in many different departments.

    Cons

For my one year intern position to become a full time position it would require me to have a PhD. Availability of new positions depends on government budget.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep actively supporting local universities with internships.

I have been working at FDA

    Pros

Abstract benefit to society which feels more palpable in the beginning

    Cons

It's bread and butter regulatory work such as moving papers from the inbox to the outbox - 90% of the time. The other 10% is doing reviews.
