    Pros

This is an excellent company to work for. The tasks are challenging, the people are terrific, and compensation is outstanding. Plus the external perception of FTI is positive.

    Cons

Being in Times Square isn't the best.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy was the deciding factor. Super. Day 1, was like being in the military. I suspect things have changed since I left, I don't hear much about them at all.

    Cons

If you're not a lawyer, CPA, Banker, Economist, graduated from an Ivy League school or made a lateral move from a competitor, run for your life! Cruel place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Profitable or not .... be aware of the culture you are at the helm of. I often wonder if CEO's, Investors, Board Members, and/or Executives read these reviews. Because they would benefit the most.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I work in Technology and 95% of the people are incredibly smart and driven. You learn a lot from an incredibly talented group of people (wish they did a better job of making them want to stay). There are only a very small handful of duds. You can work from home in this department which is fantastic as you can travel and not take PTO (this is a double edged sword because you're available to work pretty much anywhere). They have offices in almost every major city and there are opportunities to travel if you ask. If you prefer not to travel, there's no pressure to do so.
Culture is pretty good, people are very nice and will go out of their way to help you learn. But there is not much camaraderie once you leave the office.
There is an emphasis to take PTO and enjoy it while you're out. However, it can be hard to manage a "good" time to take it.
Promotion structure is a pro and con. The pro is that there aren't limited amount of upper management positions. If you deserve to be promoted, you don't need to wait for a position to be vacated.

    Cons

Promotion Cons: they emphasize 2 year minimum between promotions, but that leaves you with no incentive to work hard in a non-promotion year. Very few get promoted early, and usually FTI promotes 1 year later than it should. You have to do the work of a level higher for a year before they promote you to that level. Promotion cycles leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
Pay is below average, especially for NYC. Raises are very small, pay bumps for promotions is very underwhelming, and annual bonus is very little compared to other companies - and I've received great reviews for my level. Depending on the project, work life balance can be very difficult. You never know what time work will end and working on weekends (for a handful of hours) is pretty standard. You will constantly be on your blackberry at all hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruitment is top notch, do a better job retaining that talent. Seen way too many incredibly smart and driven people leave because they are mismanaged and underpaid. Put together a better compensation package and raise structure to make people want to stay.

I have been working at FTI Consulting

    Pros

There is really not much positive as a place to work and establish a long term employment

    Cons

There are so many narcist with little to no respect for others. Management is so focused on internal politics rather than getting the work done. Their technology practice wants to make a product and turn the practice into a product company. They will never achieve that with the current leadership with too much lawyer mentality. They only know the legal business and how to charge more hours to the clients.

    Pros

Smart co-workers, good assignments, travel opportunities, good learning opportunities, and good senior management.

    Cons

Poor work-life balance, compensation isn't great, and little communication across upper and mid-management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Institute 360 degree reviews otherwise it's difficult to evaluate how effectively mid-level management is managing consultants.

Turn around...Not a good place for growth or development

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time

    Pros

Good vacation if you are able to take it. Get to work on some interesting high profiled cases, but project experience is variable. Smart coworkers.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive with other firms. Work life balance is difficult to manage sometimes and despite the firm emphasizing that at times, it definitely does not hold true. Pressure to always be billable at the risk of one's professional development. Project experience definitely ranges. Only have had one decent project during my time at the firm. Culture needs to be improved - there are cliques that are favored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture needs improving - many people leave after being frustrated with project experience, work life balance, and overall unhappiness. Need to do 360 reviews - some managers are poor at communicating information and keeping junior folks involved. More emphasis on development and less on just billing hours. Very little mentorship here and lack of genuine involvement and guidance from senior management.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays well; good benefits; longevity of position if you work hard, are dedicated and committed; promotes within; there are some good people who work for the company, for the most part.

    Cons

Rigid corporate environment; "old boys club" mentality; work/life balance practices need improvement; office politics make the environment toxic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve and "freshen up" the culture to make working at FTI a more pleasant and appealing experience for its employees.

    Cons

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The firm offers opportunities to work on an array of interesting and challenging projects with some very smart individuals. It's a great place to learn and develop your computer skills (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint), analytical skills and attention to detail.

    Cons

The work flow can be inconsistent, and the projects that you get staffed on are largely a function of the relationships that you develop within the firm. You have to be proactive and capable of working independently if you are going to thrive in the environment. There is little to no training, which is an area that could use improvement. As such, the employee learning experience is driven primarily by project load.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the training programs and educational offerings for employees. Be more transparent about pending projects.
