    Cons

Low pay at the junior level

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of freedom and responsibility quite early on regardless of level and experience.
Complex and challenging client problems on every project - SMD's do a good job of pushing team members to develop the solutions and present directly to the client.
Very much a merit based culture and "work hard play hard" attitude amongst teams.
Practice leaders understand what it takes to grow the business and are willing to invest in new service offerings and in team member development

    Cons

Compensation appears fair and at market level but is not a transparent process
Experience and culture can vary significantly by practice and office - not enough consistency globally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come visit the core offices and make an effort to know your employees below the SMD level. Don't spend all your time in West Palm Beach.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A good place to learn some new skills. Able to work independently. Some performance managers are really great, however their enthusiasm gets hampered by the leadership. Co-workers are pleasant to work with. Social outings are nice.

    Cons

Work/Life balance can be poor for staff in consulting roles.

Lack of real advancement...just because you went from consultant to sr. consultant, to manager really doesn't mean anything.

A lack of a unified vision between teams and departments really keeps the practices and products from improving.

If you're hired, once the "honeymoon phase" is over, unless you've made it into one of the cliques, you're pretty much parked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at the middle management layers...the managing directors and senior managing directors. Those people are there to line their pockets and they may not really be concerned with the long term growth of the business. Look at the history of the stock price as an example, it's half the value it was in 2008.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great Vacation Time, (cant think of anything else, there is a 5 word minimum)

    Cons

The people, the style/manner of completing the work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its possible I was in a bad group but my co workers were back stabbing, constantly ccing the boss on correspondences having to do with very minor/anal errors, (I wouldnt even call them errors but they did), instead of coming directly to me, generally throwing me under the bus and just nasty, barely would say hello in the morning. Not sure if the culture of attempting to do projects in half the time needed requiring the group to stay till 11 at night caused this atmosphere or if the co workers were just miserable people, likely a combo of both. Wouldnt recommend this company to an enemy, the extra vacation, (no extra salary, got a 20% raise when I left) is not worth dealing with the poor attitudes and super competitiveness of the co workers and sweatshop style of the company.

Work on some of the most significant bankruptcies

    Cons

    Travel requirements
Deals are dependent on strength of your manager and your standing with the manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to put comp more inline with competitors

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Most of the people here are very smart and hard working
    - Pay is solid and on par with industry

    Cons

    - Senior leaders are very narrow minded and will not allow people below them any flexibility to try new initiatives
    - Bonus is driven way too much on utilization, which provides no incentive to do good work and only bill hours
    - Don't do anything to retain talented employees, a lot of which leave within 1-2 years of joining the firm
    - No integration of culture from the plethora of acquisitions over the last 5 years
    - No strategic vision or leadership from practice leaders or senior management - increasing bill rates and hiring more people is not a sustainable growth strategy. Also no transparency or communication from same leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to provide more communication and transparency, as well as develop a legitimate strategy and actions to achieve the end goal. Just stating the end goal without any implementation is useless.
