I have been working at FXCM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Bright office, good place to start. 8 hour work days, the office hours are based off of trading hours with 8 hour rotations since the FX market is 24 hours a day. The only shift that is awkward would be the London trading hours which is basically when everyone else in NY sleeps. Most people work typical hours though.

    Cons

Some of the responsibilities aren't highly transferable. It's a nice place to get work experience but you the currency trading is a niche in the greater scheme of things

    Pros

Lots of professional training, managers give guidance and quasar reviews, friendly people, team atmosphere.

    Cons

Company does not appreciate its human capital, lack of growth opportunities outside management, compartmentalized departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Having worked in the IT department i can say that the technology is impressive. The salary is fair but the health benefits are quite good and the employee contribution is very reasonable.

    Cons

Having come from Fortune 500 companies i was quite unaccustomed to the rampant nepotism. There are so many people in positions that they are clearly not qualified for. One, however, must keep in mind that although it is a publicly traded company, almost all of the stock is owned by the founder and his family members so you essentailly have a pulicly traded family owned business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If anything, make any effort to promote people who work hard and demonstrate inititiative as opposed to the obligatory handing out of plums to the well connected.
Stop advertising bonuses you have no intention of paying out.

    Pros

Trading nerds are very welcome here!
    Some positions allow work-from-home flexibility.
If you're mobile, there are positions available in other countries- sometimes long term.
The people that make FXCM are easy to get along with. Not much internal drama or fighting.

    Cons

There is a high burn out rate for the entry-level service and sales positions.
There is a lack of timely communications between teams/departments.
Advancement is difficult for the majority of new hires because internal growth is slower than ideal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve staff in decision making- don't just lay out what's going to change but rather get insight and input ahead of policy/organizational change, let employees see the thought process and contribute solutions.

    Pros

Great place to get your feet wet. Great opportunity to learn and grow. This is the best company to learn about fx trading.

    Cons

Low pay, lack of upward mobility and trust. Unlikely to receive promotion. Do not get caught up here as you will have trouble leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees more to retain better talent. The trial by fire and use of inexperienced talent can get us into trouble in the future.

I worked at FXCM as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Laid Back: My Boss was really laid really understood that I had school and worked with me every step of the way.
Location: Was really close to my house and could take DNT to get here
People: They are just regular people doing their work, pretty laid back and fun

    Cons

Pay: 10$ for an intern who is in college is not enough
People: They don't really welcome the intern and interns just do they work and bounce
Work: Too redundant and busy work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build an Internship Program and then hire interns who want to work in operations or any department that you hire in.
