I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Hotel discounts... sort of!, cool ppl to work with .... sort of

    Cons

CRAZY SCHEDULING! one day it could be 6-2, the next 8-4, 10 pm -7am, back to 3-11, No true room for growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't hide things from your team! Be more involved with the team as far as help! Don't sit in the back and watch cameras the entire shift! Are you front desk mgr. Or security

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts

    Pros

Continuous management training. Great values. Difficult but effective hiring process. Many industry tools to manage your operation. Great colleagues. They promote from within and move people around the country.

    Cons

Pay and benefits below industry standard. Executive team is focused on politics or getting themselves promoted, and not on assisting you to change/ improve operation. Slow to adopt market trends. Many guests have higher perspective of the brand than its reality. Inconsistent product offering between hotels.

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There were a bunch of really nice staff members who were like family. A lot of them had worked for the company for more than 10 years. Benefits were good.

    Cons

Some management was age-ist and instead of promoting smart, capable employees from within, insisted on searching for "more experienced" talent. Some managers were great at their job but should never actually manage others. Since there are so many locations to work at with this company, it really depends on where you work and the culture there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't put people who have no desire to be a mentor as a manager to entry-level staff.

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good Benefits and opportunities for upward mobility.

    Cons

Seasonal, understaffed in the high season made for a higher incidence of details slipping through the cracks. This doesn't get taken into account with upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know an employee that is negatively being singled out more personally instead of just taking the criticisms of that persons colleague(s) or others as factual.

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues, great hotels, great locations

    Cons

Presidents of the company make poor decisions that impact hotel's such as canning the entire Sales Force for the Americas without notice, promote people who do not know what they are doing, and do not support line managers, poor compensation

I worked at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you love selling timelessly beautiful properties, this is the place for you. Fairmont has a lovely portfolio of properties and the company is right sized, not too big and not too small.

    Cons

I found the culture to be cold and cliquish.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some more fun and let your employees see that you genuinely care about them and not just the profits.
