Very pleasant and beneficial for me most of the time spent there , but sometime was unorganized

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAlways greeted by other employees with a smile, although most do not know I was working as an intern. I got to explore different departments, which was helpful than staying in just one. I got to go to meetings and learned what to expect in employee meetings.

ConsThe meetings was helpful the first time, but I feel like sometime they forgot to plan something for the interns, so they just put us in the meeting and listen.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

    Great Opportunities when applicable

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsFairmont is an under rated gem as their service philosophy is to do right by their guests. Your idea of what may be best for that guest based on your interactions is received and welcomed. A good place for growth if you are vocal and desire to learn. Small team makes it easy to reach out by department or property

ConsBeing empowered is good for those that would use it. This idea allows colleagues to do what is right for your guest but sometimes falls short of expectancy as well as a variation in service provided.

Overall good company to work for

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsGrowing company - the company is still building new properties and acquiring hotels

ConsLack of office culture due to everybody being so busy all the time, no motivation to have friends in the office because everybody is always working, I have no friends in the office

Advice to Senior ManagementMore team building, less team meetings

Top notch training, friendly team members

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsGreat training, resume builder, room for career growth.

ConsVery corporate and there can be poor communication downward. Poor food, typical EDR fare. Very little flexibility in terms of scheduling, and you better not be late.

    Good company, good people

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) Sonoma, CA

ProsThe benefits are great and is a great company to work for. They have good values and hire good people.

Consif you don't have seniority your hours will be cut significantly to almost zero during slow season. be ready to file for unemployment if you just started. there is no guarantee and they dont give you a heads up.

    Not bad, could be better

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Kïhei, HI

ProsGreat Benefits, comparable pay. Nice property to work at. Very prestigeous brand resort. Free lunch and paid lunch break.

ConsNeed more Aloha. It became more corporate than it used to be. Overworked employees during busy times. Need to focus more on employees, not just guests

    Fairmont: Sonoma & Big Island

Banquets and Special Events Captain (Former Employee) Sonoma, CA

ProsGorgeous properties, great benefits, fun people, good work.

ConsBoth the hotels I worked for (Sonoma Mission Inn and on the Orchid on Big Island) were embarrassingly nepotistic when it came to hiring of their highest level management. Definitely the mid-level managers and below were the ones really doing the work, higher than that and they were almost political figures, rather than people who worked there.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't ignore the company mission to cross train employees. Try to not kill your mid-level managers and promote prima donnas to the top.
