I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Easy work
    Opportunity to move up quickly
    -People person? be a cashier
-not so much? work stock/ recovery
    Laid Back environment
    Vacation time

    Cons

    Typically not enough hours
    Not enough payroll
    Low pay on average
    Raises happen annually
    No discounts for employees
    Systems are outdated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Organize. and then write that down fifty times.
    ask these questions to yourself.
Why do we get truck loads of crap we already have or dont need. Alot of it sits and sits and sits. Like right now it is spring-ish and we have flowers everywhere. No one buys them! especially since they cant be set up through the store like decoration for impulse buys. why?
    Give employees discounts.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits namely days off are excellent as you receive about 18 paid days off a year in your first year alone.
    Work is continuous without lulls.
    Facilities are in good shape.

    Cons

Depending on your department you can work as low as 30 hours a week while other departments are working overtime.
Absolutely no forgiveness if you miss productivity, make it or gone.
Several inefficiencies and odd placements make completing the job difficult at times.
Damaged equipment can hurt your productivity rates but you aren't given any benefits for having to solve the problem
After the first year, nothing really goes up. You get a max of a 50 cent raise a year, and you don't accrue more vacation time until after second year.

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

the customers are the best part of the job. working the same shift over and over, you get to know them all very well.

    Cons

horrible payroll, not enough time or money to do the things that need to be done to keep the store looking great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your managers, they are the ones on the front lines with the customers. they are the ones that hear the complaints about no one being around to check them out, or to help them. just because an employee's basket size is low, doesn't mean that they are stealing from the company, you need to look at the whole picture before having them interrogated. look at the hours that they work, and the sales, we can't drag people in off the street and make them spend money that don't have to bring up our basket sizes.
