    Pros

    My immediate regional director is a man of real integtrity. He understands the real pulse of the business. Many of the Corp officials including HR live in a completely different world. It appears they are only worried about there own political correctness instead of reallly understaniding of the real problems out in the field. Family Dollar claims to be a Compelling place to work. That is not a true statement. I would like to speak with Howard Levine personally.

    Cons

    In the position I held, I was was working almost 7 days a week, 24-7 even on your days off. Real ability of help from the corp office wasn"t really there much. THose who tried should be commended but the high officials, Tina Fisher, Collin Mcginnis I would not praise at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do real training instead of lip service type training. Reading your training off of Family Dollar universtiy is one thing but actual training is more important. Corp office people generally do not understnad the real day to day world

    make a little money, experience on cash handling, benefits (somewhat)

    Cons

    customer complaints, aggressive managers, short and long breaks, no vacation time unless a month in advance, shoplifters, barely allowed overtime, small amount of payroll, closing hours, not enough staff, rude managers

    communicate more with stores on time, update register and kiosk programs, be more thorough on background checks on employees and 3rd party vendors, and maintenence

    Good Benefits (Medical & 401K)
    Supply Chain operation does an excellent job supporting/serving their Family Dollar Stores.

    Cons

    Below Average Compensation!
    Considerable Acts of Nepotism being performed without discretion.
    Corporate Office offers no transparency or clear goals in regards to Vision or Strategy.

    Set Clear Goals and Standby your Decisions!
    Realize who your Customers are (or were for that matter!)
    Offer English Speaking Classes to Hispanics.

    Benefits are good. good training if have right management.

    Cons

    Not as cultural diverse in hiring and promotion as they say. It's a good ole boy club. Long hours, Poor payroll for stores. Most time working by yourself.

    Pros

    The people I worked with where cool. A lot of room to move up, good customer service experience. Meet a lot of new people. This job for me really helped to build character and work ethic.

    Cons

    The pay was really the only con for me. I starter off as a cashier at min wage and became an Assistant manager they gave me $1 more per hour that was straight bs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your employees more they really do work hard for your company. you can afford It you should start off at $10 for cashiers $12 for AMs I unsure about SMs, but I'm sure they should be getting paid more.
