    Cons

Micro manged, Management do not know what to do.an are basically lackeys of poor upper Management. Every failure from Progressive, as well the worst people who came from other companies gravitate to Farmers. HR, is a poor joke.

    Horrible work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You own the business. Farmers subsidizes your pay for the first 3 years with $1000 increase each subsuquent year and if you achieve your targets, this subsidy never has to be paid back. Fully supportive training for the first 3 months and beyond to help you build your business quickly. Friendly people within the organization. Nicely packaged products for your customers. Farmers provides a nice number of internet leads to the agents on a daily basis for no change.

    Cons

You have to work your butt off during the first year (as you would in any new business start up situation); There were some costs not mentioned by the recruiters that caught me by surprise like the $800 U4 background check and securities exams fees. However, they do give a nice bonus upon completion of the licensing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be up front about all costs the agents will encounter. The program is solid enough that most agents will not mind the fees, since those fees are compensated for in the completion bonus.

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It allows me the opportunity to connect with people and help them assess their risk factors while nurturing a "Welcoming them into our Farmers Family" attitude and experience!!!

    Cons

Sometimes there are situations where a dog has bitten a child or person and then if a claim was made that dog is considered DANGEROUS and thus makes that home a place where Farmers will not insure that home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too new to really expound on this point.

    Pros

professional committed and @ your side while not in your way.

    Cons

Always good and bad, the bad, big comapny, tries to be all things to all people, which sometimes makes it difficult to stay ahead of the game

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

we know the quota system exists, and success take effort, work and skills, but pressing from above can produce negative results

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance

    Pros

Depending on the position, agent csr's is an awesome position. Sometimes underwriting is helpful. Some state reps work really well with the agents,

    Cons

When you have a District manager or a state sales manager that doesn't know the value of their agents, it's frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't use so much personal thought when it comes down to business. Take a look at density & retention.

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance

    Pros

It pays OK for the area, they are flexible on schedule, flex time is available if needed on an occassional basis.

    Cons

It seems that it is not how good a job you do, it''s really "who" you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the people who take advantage of the system, and look at the time they are actually working.

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance

    Pros

You can work at home as long as you are meeting your numbers, company car (although that is going away), cell phone, lap top computer, pay for performance

    Cons

Managers that tell you point blank "no one will leave because the economy is so bad they wont be ale to find a job,' people quit and are never replaced, lame explanations for why the department is not hiring, 12-14 hours of work a day + weekends, management's poor communication skills, too many POINTLESS meetings including meetings about why there are meetings, a completely subjective auditing system that is consistently inconsistent, and last but not least your yearly review will include your "behavior" in the office. This is especially important because they do not average out metrics and your whole review can only be as high as your lowest metric rating. If you are meeting all numbers and your behavior is "not meeting," your yearly rating is "not meeting."
Good luck. If you get offered a job in Colorado or Wyoming run as fast as you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try acting like you care about your employees.

I have been working at Farmers Automobile Insurance

    Pros

It's a large company that has name recognition making it easier for customers and clients to trust you. The compensation for being an agent isn't capped.

    Cons

The server we work on is constantly being changed. It doesn't work with Firefox! There is too much pressure from management to sell sell sell even if it's not in the best interest of your client.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop saturating the market with so many agents and start supporting the ones that you have on board already! The constant changes to db really just make it confusing for most.
