Former Employee – worked at Fastenal full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – great sales experience, good corporate structure, good benefits
Fastenal is a very smart company. Fastenal knows exactly what they need to accomplish to secure that their stock will be successful.
Cons – limited advancement opportunities, micro-managed, compensation dependent, extremely performance based, low end of salary range
Advice to Senior Management – Consolidate branches and incorporate a single territory manager who would be responsible for growing new and existing customer. Web-only sale of products.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Fastenal part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great opportunity for career advancement, flexible with school schedule, in case you relocate or wish to travel they are an MNC and are very helpul in finding you work elsewhere.
Cons – Very agressive growth demands (not sustainable future) pay structure for OSP positions could be improved. Lean staffing = overworked and can lead to burning out
Advice to Senior Management – Invest in human capital, take the time to aquedatly train both sales support, and OSP positions. The resources are their, but not the time... Most but not all stores are run too lean, and when one person leaves it's a get "another body in there" approach, rather than having adequate coverage and time to get the next employee up to speed about their customers and market in which they serve.

Former Employee – worked at Fastenal part-time for more than a year
Pros – Good working environment, work with school schedule, and pay for someone in college is great. Not bad pay if you are a manager of a store or district manager. Great sales and logistics experience.
Cons – High turnover, low pay if you are an OSP, and not really any room for growth in the company.

Current Employee – been working at Fastenal part-time for less than a year
Pros – Good job to have in college. Gave me a broad understanding of distribution. Gained experience in receiving, sourcing, quoting prices, placing orders, delivering products, customer service, and retail. No doubt that this led to my first internship in supply chain.
Cons – 7am starts are not fun while in college. Other than that, it really depends on your general manager, and there is a high turnover rate. I worked for three GMs in one year... some I liked working for... some I didn't.
