I worked at Fastenal (less than an year)

    Pros

The materials in their training program are really informative and I think the interactive training modules are really helpful. Opportunity to advance in the company. Work in Sales and drive the company truck to meet with clients. Working part-time gives a flexible schedule. Decentralized company so it is like you own your own branch, but all branches have access to a wide network of corporate assistance.

    Cons

Advancement opportunity can mean moving to another store or city. Sometimes boring and unfulfilling..

    I worked at Fastenal

    Pros

There are a lot of motivated people who are easy to work with. If you're looking for a company that cares about its community and giving back to those in need, this organization is for you.

    Cons

Management could improve communication with its employees based on what their job responsibilities entail. I disliked having two departments telling me to follow two different sets of directions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve communication, working with other departments, and boost team moral.

    Pros

You are constantly learning everyday. The sky is the limit regarding your opportunity to create a quality business in your market that you can be proud to call your own.

    Cons

The buck stops with you so if you are not ready to take ownership than this is not the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep helping us be competitive

I have been working at Fastenal part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Always more to learn, promote from within (always full time positions opening up), Each day is different, ample opportunity to get out of office, flexible with scheduling, customer service centered, low stress (not constantly thinking about work after off).

    Cons

Pay is low for full time employees (lower than they deserve)

I worked at Fastenal full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great Training
Freedom to call on who you want as often as you'd like
Good pay for the education level required
    Benefits
    Advancement Opportunities

    Cons

Pile on the responsibilities. Most branches are understaffed and struggle to meet the demands of management due to personnel restrictions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire part time help to ease the weight on full timers shoulders. Also, vending is not the answer. Focus more on growth within current accounts to be successful.

    Cons

Nothing that I can think of but I would advise to wear comfortable shoes I tried my steel toe boots and got blisters.
