ProsDecent start rate (until you really get the experience)
Learn a lot about customer service, printing, and finishing
Some coworkers are good to work with
Developed good relationships with customers

ConsYour typical overworked and underpaid
It gets insane especially during peak hours and holidays, you'll find yourself going nuts
Working by myself for hours at a time was very difficult and lost business by having customers walk out
EXTREMELY stressful! I can't even explain how stressful this job is
Customers are very demanding sometimes and their stress will add on to yours, they expect things to be done right away

The employees that are allowed to work for the company are extremely questionable.

Consultant (Current Employee)
Las Vegas, NV

I have been working at FedEx Office full-time for more than 3 years

ProsI love the benefits and the learning opportunities. I also like the fact that there is room to move up in the company.

ConsThe main challenge of working there is getting along with disrespectful team members. There is also a severe lack of uniformity across the board pertaining to company policy.

Advice to Senior ManagementI believe that you should be more selective with your employees and enforce the policies and rules more strictly.

Customer Consultant (Current Employee)
Boise, ID

I have been working at FedEx Office full-time for more than 3 years

ProsVery nice customers to work with on a day to day bases

ConsWhy the upper CEO staff and management don't really care what is really happening in the centers to this day. Are they that blind or really don't care. It seems to me if I read what I have been reading it would raise flags enough for me to start being concerned and try to figure out what is really going on and what could I do to fix it. But Brian Phillips and Fred Smith don't seem to really show they care. It is only showing they care about how much money they can put in there pockets and not to care about the ones doing the hard work in the centers. I have read most of the concerns from former team members, managers I think they are very spot on and Brian Phillips and Fred Dmith should be ashamed of the way they are allowing managers in the centers today treat team members terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a deep look into your company and ask yourself are you the correcet CEO for this company and to do something about it.

Poor management and worse performance incentive schemes

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at FedEx Office part-time

ProsHelping people put together great presentations for work/school was rewarding and the other employees were a pleasure to work with.

ConsSome aspects of performance were rewarded based on speed, and so quality and accuracy went overlooked. Additionally, inexperienced managers exacerbated the stress levels of employees and frequently scapegoated novice employees for their own mistakes. Finally, there was a disconnect between the high level company values and the actual values perpetuated at the stores. For example, employees were told to value the customers more than profit, but then were scolded for staying a few minutes late to help customers with printing emergencies (because of the additional cost of paying the employee to stay late).

Advice to Senior ManagementReconsider performance incentive schemes and place more emphasis on training managers on appropriate workplace, leadership behavior

It's a trap!

Lead Project Coordinator (Former Employee)
Tampa, FL

I worked at FedEx Office full-time for more than 10 years

ProsOnce you prove competence, the micro-managing gets cut back, but you'll also be stuck with doing way more work than your co-workers. They were accommodating with vacation requests. Vibe was relaxed on most days.

ConsIt's difficult to move up unless you're an absolute suck-up. Raises are laughable. Work experience doesn't transfer into many other fields. It's a cancer to your resume.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop abusing your most-experienced employees. People that are overworked and never leave create a very hostile environment.

Training denied; store manager said he "knew better" than the massive on-line training that FedEx developed themselves.

Center Consultant (Former Employee)

I worked at FedEx Office full-time for more than a year

ProsGood starting pay (if you fight for it and prove you have a B.A.), benefits after three months.

ConsStore Manager is supposed to allow employees to use the computer on company time to access FedEx's massive training program. This store manager refused access; said he "knew better," and wished it could be as before such training existed. It is against company policy and ground for termination to access the site for training at home on our own time; so there were things I just did not know. This hurt in customer service. And the manager YELLS in public at employees for not knowing certain procedures, yet the manager refuses to train employees. Not a good work environment.
Also, the "benefits in three months" is misleading. If you don't start on the 1st of the month, they don't count that month. And if the manager cuts your hours in any of the three months for any reason, that month(s) doesn't count either. So your "three month" benefits may not begin until five or seven months later :(

Advice to Senior ManagementLet your employees access the company's training, and your employees will shine.

Don't management to honor your availability.

Center Consultant (Former Employee)
Riverside, CA

I worked at FedEx Office part-time for less than a year

Pros- Work is interesting and passes the time once you're proficient.
- You'll never feel intimidated by a copier/ printer again.
- Very corporate, but in a good way.

Cons- Management does not honor your availability unless you're in school or a favorite. I asked to not be scheduled for only two nights, after the rush, out of the whole week. I kept getting scheduled for those nights and would remind them about my availability. My boss didn't like that and said a paper I had signed about changes in the company meant I forfeited my availability. The paper said nothing of the sort.
- There is a lot of blatant favoritism.
- Hands on training is very limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop choosing favorites. Honor availability when its reasonable (ie only two night a week after the rush).
