I worked at FedEx part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Chill coworkers depending who you work with
    - Fast paced environment (may not be for everyone cause it includes heavy lifting)

    Cons

    - Odd hours; especially during the holidays
    - Speaking of holidays; they work you to the ground during big holidays (i.e. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Fridays, Christmas, etc.)

I worked at FedEx part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits and the managers were really down to earth people, I even managed to become good friends with one of them.

    Cons

Poor working conditions, faulty equipment, and low wages made my experience as a package handler unbearable. The big wigs were inhuman to say the least.

I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people in my department were good people for the most part. My direct manager was one of the nicest people I've ever met that put family first in front of work even though the company does not.

    Cons

Compensation is awful for the work I was doing. Spent 10 years of my life there. Seven of those years I was stuck in one department trying to get out to no avail. I know the industry from start to finish but because it's divided into separate OP-Cos it's nearly impossible to switch to other positions. The corporate headquarters for ground is full of nepotism. I would apply for jobs then later find out the people hired had little to no experience but were friends of employees or family or attractive young women hired by male managers. Getting out was a great decision for me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. There is so much talent you are looking over. You lost a loyal, high performing, employee because of the good ol boy mentality in Pittsburgh.

I worked at FedEx full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, lateral moves are possible, pension plan that few companies have, job stability, once you are a manager you are bullet proof. Equitable hiring practices. great company for ex-military people. Great brand recognition. You are responsible for creating your own work/life balance. Upper management has good vision and innovative ideas. Never a dull moment.

    Cons

Terrible managers are never held accountable. Management is overwhelmingly white males. Raises never keep up with the cost of living so negotiate high when coming on-board. No real support for innovation. Managing up is a huge burden on top of your existing work load. Being nice or political is more important than being knowledgeable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of under-performing managers. Pay attention to the advice in the employee survey. Promote some women. Memphis is not the center of the universe. Recruit more widely and engage a global, remote workforce. Live up to your effort to go green and save office space costs by letting more people work from home.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Local territories that results in being home nights and weekend.

    Cons

Gross over management and hand-holding. Treats seasoned sales professionals like children. Must wear a full suit and tie every day, which is over-dressing customer by about 4-to-1. Endless internal paperwork, exercises, etc. Goals are set by automation and salespeople are typically thrown into a ditch when quotas are re-set, then beaten daily to climb out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust that the salespeople you hire are professionals and GET OUT OF THEIR WAY!!

I worked at FedEx part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

This is a good fast pace working environment with decent pay for the position. I enjoyed working with other handlers

    Cons

The pay is good but they rush you out so fast to avoid paying you as much. You would be lucky if you could afford to pay the electric bill every month as package handler.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make the pay worthwhile.

I have been working at FedEx full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good pay, meeting interesting people.

    Cons

Delivery drivers seems to e the only ones who are held accountable for doing their job. The freight drivers that travel between statio can show up as they well please, which cause us to be dispatched late( sometimes as late as 10 oclock). Station manergers and their sidepieces (women) are not in anything but their bounuses. And working for a contractor sometimes means lack of flexability to take time off in an emergency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To the district/area managers, get off your and light a fire under the frieght drivers who feel that they can arrive when it pleases them. And to station management, put employees on the belt who know what the hell they are doing. And start putting people over packages.
