I worked at Federal Government full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great place to work, great pay, great OT, take home vehicles, tons of travel. Promotional ops up to GS-12/13. Lots of training available, tons of high tech "toys" issued to law enforcement. Deployment ops are always available and that means OT.

    Cons

Computer issues with government written programs and on government intranet very small bandwidth. Too much non law enforcement duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure the agency, eliminate contrqct guard oversite by creating a force of PSS to free up enforcement ops.

    Pros

When you work for the Federal Government, you are working for the people. You are part of keeping the nation safe, solving very complex problems and knowing that you are doing something incredibly worthwhile.

    Cons

This is a challenging environment for someone who constantly needs praise and attention. Most of the satisfaction and motivation is self generated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think like a private sector manager - motivation, bottom line, etc.

I worked at Federal Government full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, training, growth potential for motivated and qualified employees. Complicated application process, however, worth the effort. Must be able to follow and implement complex policies and procedures.

    Cons

Office clicks can be a determent or an asset, depending who you befriend. Keep in the know but refrain from being a part of the problem. You never know who will be tour boss in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At times of downsizing or as major changes occur, it can be very. stressful for all employees. Managers and supervisors make a difference between positive or negative reactions from their teams by how they explain and implement changes.
