I worked at Federal Government full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, training, growth potential for motivated and qualified employees. Complicated application process, however, worth the effort. Must be able to follow and implement complex policies and procedures.

    Cons

Office clicks can be a determent or an asset, depending who you befriend. Keep in the know but refrain from being a part of the problem. You never know who will be tour boss in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At times of downsizing or as major changes occur, it can be very. stressful for all employees. Managers and supervisors make a difference between positive or negative reactions from their teams by how they explain and implement changes.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

pay is good and benefits were great. Great environment to work it and enjoyed the people. Had great time traveling and learning.

    Cons

Many days worked long hours and had to change work plan based on upper managment ideas and change in procedures. Alot of the good old boys club going around.

I worked at Federal Government full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stability, benefits, challenging projects, work/life balance.

    Cons

DC commute is horrible, pay is lower than market average - much more money in being a gov contractor and many of those companies have comparable benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase COLA and step increases to offset rising cost of insurance premiums and high cost of living in areas like DC/NOVA, San Fran, etc. I wanted to remain a fed, but couldn't afford to live in NOVA. The only affordable housing for a family of 5 was 70 miles south in Fredericksburg, VA.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits and pretty good job security
Lots of opportunities to solve complex problems

    Cons

    Antiquated systems and thinkers
Somewhat of a tight squeeze on mobility - ESPECIALLY if out of the DC area

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more opportunities for GS-12 thru GS-15 employees to reside outside of the DC area
Utilize technology more to minimize redundancies and gain efficiency
