I worked at Fedex Express full-time

    Pros

FedEx Services (used to be part of FedEx Express) allows employees to take ownership of decision-making in their individual roles. They place a high value on training and revitalizing the corporate culture, and foster a desire for providing extraordinary customer service. In turn, the employee is responsible for their own career development, and must be assertive about pursuing opportunities for learning more and moving up.

    Cons

Upper management is a little too quick to impress upon the employees how good a place it is to work. It is much better than average, but its real corporate culture does not correspond completely with its ideal corporate culture. Yes, they have all sorts of training and awareness programs designed to engage employees and make sure they believe people come first. However, in real-life situations, that philosophy tends to get pushed down in the priority stack. Also, because there are so many nearly-autonomous operating companies (OpCos), there are way too many turf wars and silos. Finally, the company structure and chain of command is somewhat militaristic and its easy to get written up for things that would be handled much more informally at most modern companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't try to force renewal of the company core values by trying to push the corporate culture from the top down. Listen to your own management consultants, who have told you: corporate cultures rise naturally from the bottom up. Again, the lack of connection between the ideal culture and the real culture.

I have been working at Fedex Express part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very good work system, very friendly people, so many major/minor benetfits, better than UPS i've worked as a temp. r

    Cons

While major benetfits are very well informed, you have to dig for minors yourself. Attendance and rules are extremely strict, which is normal since it is global logistic company mostly deal with airplanes. Educational benefit is somewhat complicated than UPS. y

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try to ask for your locker as soon as you started work, since it is really convenient to leave your work shoes and gloves and pen in it. For educational benefit, talk ahead before you research only. u

I have been working at Fedex Express full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The culture is positive and helpful. Despite the pressure of being an Express company, most areas are fairly laid back, although expectations are high for new hires.

    Cons

There is a certain 'hourly' culture among many professionals who have been with the company for 30+ years. Often, people with much seniority have been in the same position for their entire career and have no motivation to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For a technologically advanced company, there is too much reliance on outdated systems (mainframe, Blackberry, IE, etc.). There is a strong reluctance to change and streamline. The company is stuck relying on Services who have proved again and again they have zero motivation to provide prompt assistance.
