I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits, and people are the main drivers when considering advantages of working there. Benefits are above average. Very flexible work hours.

    Cons

Promotions are very political. Selection is by quota per organization and based on how well your manager and his manager can advocate for you. It's important that your management is highly regarded among their peers.

    Pros

Nice to finally work for an investment company that is private. Clients first, not shareholders. Thank you Johnson family!

    Cons

Work life balance is not competitive with other like-compensated options. My SF Bay Comp is mirrored to those in lower cost-of-living parts of the country.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the 401k leader, we should have a yearly matching True-Up.

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people are very nice and supportive, especially my manager. I had a recent death in my family, and everyone was beyond supportive, which meant a lot. You may expect an investment company to be stuffy and old school, but Fidelity is quite the opposite! The perks and benefits are great, as well as the pay.

    Cons

Coming from a creative background (art and theater), being in a very corporate environment can be sometimes challenging for a right brained person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Though this is an old respected company with a sound reputation, make sure to also occasionally make room for new modern ideas.

    Pros

The continuous investment back into the employees and customers.

    Cons

Very conservative company with LOTS of type-a personalities. Everyone works hard and struggles with balancing time away.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase pay for those closest to the customers.

    Pros

I have a great manager. I feel like his primary goal is the professional development of my teammates and me. If you take initiative to stand out, you can be successful.

    Cons

You have to track your success to advance. There are many tools available to do this, but you aren't required to use those tools.

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I would say that the best part of working at Fidelity are the benefits and the culture. The benefits are unmatched for New Hampshire (I would imagine the same for Florida, Kentucky, Ohio, Colorado and Utah but I'm not 100% certain). The culture is awesome. Lots of positive people and I've definitely gotten my share of great managers that like to promote within. I believe that management culture does trickle down and inspire new and up-and-coming managers. Being positive at this company will certainly get your far. I tend to be a naturally positive person who is extremely driven. That speaks volumes.

    Cons

It's stressful at times. The pay could be a little better, but it's not horrible by any means. I still feel like upper management is slightly disconnected to what we have to do vs. industry standards vs. their expectations. Lastly, we have an internal feedback board we can utilize to provide customer as well as coworker feedback, however the time frames from when the research of a project starts to when it completes can be well over 1 year. For a multi-billion dollar company, I'm not sure if that is truly acceptable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thanks for starting initiatives to really attempt to connect to what we do on a day-to-day basis, however, please continue to understand what we do here. In addition, please ensure that the manager who run our day-to-day operations are not overly stressing their directors and middle management employees. We are your resources to complete key initiatives that this good company has set forth, and while numbers are key factors and indicators as to the completion of these initiatives, keep in mind that the people of the company are your greatest resource and happy employees will drive those initiatives faster than the numbers.
