    Good Place to Start

    Credit Analyst (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsManagement is very supportive of responding to staff needs and making changes when needed. Benefits are comparable with similar employers. The environment is very laid back and employees seem to maintain positive attitudes.

ConsIt can be challenging to move into another area of the bank, little opportunity to network within the bank. It's difficult to grow a career here if your department does not have a built-in track. There does not seem to be much of a focus of growing employees within the company, and it feels your best opportunity for growing your career is to explore options at other companies.

    Milford, OH

ProsGreat work experience and wonderful people to work with.

ConsOnly opportunity to advance is with Sales. Promotions are slow to happen.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo better value the hard workers and to have more opportunities to move up in the company (not just sales)

No job is perfect, but this one did have more pros than cons.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsWorked at Madisonville location. Great benefits and the opportunity to advance within the company is very positive. Overall the atmosphere is supportive. They handled the layoffs (and continue to layoff) pretty well in who to let go and when. I was a casualty (I'm not bitter about it as I made it through countless rounds of lay offs) but they (HR/ER) still seem to care about you and help you through the exiting process.

ConsMy original manager was laid off whom I had a great rapport with, the new (new to the position, not new to the company) manager is very unperson-able, hard to talk to, very standoffish although very smart and gets the job done. Sometimes to advance into another position is more a political thing or popularity contest. The opportunity to get a bonus is good but to achieve it is hard as you are sometimes penalized for an "error" that is not yours.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more personable, open up with your employees as you intimidate most which causes them not feeling comfortable coming to you to talk to you about anything. This is something that not only I experienced but others too that have mentioned. Need to restructure the incentive program and penalize the appropriate parties.

    My time at 5/3rd

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsOverall the company is performing well and the company is very focused on execution and delivering on commitments

ConsBecause of the intense focus on earnings, there tends to be a lot of "fire-drills" and at times an over-focus on this quarters earnings

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue the focus on execution but make sure that is balanced a little more against long-term earnings and an intense focus on the customer

Great development opportunities for dedicated employees

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsPretty good pay and benefits; I have had four different managers and none of them were clock watchers; Schedule is flexible as long as you get your work done; talented individuals are rewarded and given plenty of development opportunities; plenty of opportunities to work in different areas of the bank and in different affiliates from Michigan to Florida.

ConsOpen positions are sometimes filled politically rather than being based on merit and experience.

    Good Company that Resists Change

    Team Lead (Current Employee)
    Cincinnati, OH

ProsThe benefits are good and finding internal promotions is easy to a point (see below). Salaries are competitive. The company is good about communicating organizational news and goals. They match up to 4% of your 401(k) contribution.

ConsAt lower pay grades it is very hard to make your voice heard. Even leaders seem to have a hard time affecting change due to the rigid structure of the organization. If you work hard, you'll move up the ladder quickly until you hit a glass ceiling where you can't move up anymore without a background in finance, accounting or business.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen and experiment as much as is possible for a financial institution. Good advice can come from anyone and taking organizational risks could be the key to making your bank an industry leader.
