Connected -> Interviewed -> Got an offer. All in < 3 weeks !!

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsInterview process is super fast!! Talked to recruiter over phone couple of times.. He quickly scheduled a phone screening with hiring manager and with the architect on the following day.. Called for an on-site in the following week!! Got the final offer in 2 days .. Negotiated on the same day and final offer letter on the next day.

Everything happened in less than 3 weeks (No exaggerations). The Recruiter (Ronny Greer) was super fast in going through the process. No old school email exchanges. Directly call and text ! Also, Have not met a recruiter before who knows technical stuff required for the position in such details (and not just the names ;) )

Company has a bunch of products which help people to retire with better financial position. To me it is important to work for a initiative to help people in some way through my work. Company has great past and promising roadmap ahead. I am really excited and eager to join :)

ConsCant find any at this point and hope I dont find any :)

Advice to Senior ManagementNone at this point.

    Great Product with Great Vision

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsI feel it's a great product that can help people in their planning of money savings, that will help them in future.
It was a great & quick interview process. Team and Recruiter very very supportive during the process of H1b transfer and shifting the joining date based on my availability.

ConsGiving people tool for that future planning is a great responsibility.

It used to be great; currently in a painful, chaotic slump

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

    Pros- Nice office environment
    - People are generally nice and friendly
    - Salary for product marketing seems competitive
    - Flexibility to work from home (occasionally) when needed
    - Generous PTO in first year and building the longer you stay
    - For some teams, getting money to run programs is easy

Cons- Upper level leadership gets side-tracked easily
    - Management is always looking for the "silver bullet" and is uninterested in anything else
    - in 2014, there's a complete lack of focus and total chaos in product development

Advice to Senior ManagementStop with the whiplash.

    Laid back growth company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefits are great and the people make work enjoyable. Free breakfast, snacks and drinks are nice perks. New open concept office lends itself to collaboration amongst teams.

ConsThe organization is flat with very little growth opportunity. When jobs do become available they hire from the outside rather than rewarding tenure or further developing current staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on career development for Managers and above. You are losing great talent.

    Burn and Churn management team

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHighly intelligent staff (only Stanford grads need apply) & interesting work

ConsBurn and churn of executive staff
4 EVPs in customer experience in less than 3 years
2 VPs in customer experience quit or "on leave"
3 VPs in investment management in 3 years
6 VPs in human resources in 8 years
    EVP in technology just quit

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat is going on with so many executives leaving? You need to keep executives in marketing, HR and technology rather than making it impossible for them to stay. Learn how to work with people who did not go to Stanford and who are new to the company. If you can't take care of marketing, technology and your employees what CAN you do?

Its like a government office in third world country

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

    ProsThey are in the valley.

ConsI agree with some of the reviews here on Glassdoor.com... this place does not have a vibe of a high tech company. They are very slow in adapting anything new. The technology they were using in 2013, was the technology I used in 2007-2008 in another company.
Once the excitement of new job was over - I quickly figured that I had just depreciated value of my career. During my run here, I did not learn anything new in terms of technology (I mean it...). There was no scope for innovation or learning.

I went to Financial Engines from a start-up. At our 20 people startup - our direction changed frequently, it was exhausting - but there was leadership, there was a vision! At Financial Engines, there is NO vision, and absolutely NO leadership. There is tons of micromanagement - if thats what you are looking for go and join Financial Engines.

People are another topic of discussion too. Yes, most of the people there have been around for a very long time (I don't know if that is good either..); They know functionality very well...and they WILL NOT share the knowledge...! They guard their turf! Not one manager/director/VP has diverse teams.

Can you find heaven on earth in a job? Well, YES!

Senior Portfolio Analyst (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsFE has a wonderful balance of academic theory and real life application. It's wonderful to have a job in finance where you know the organization is really trying to help people (small or big account). You can sleep well at night. There are high standards here, great managers, top management is really accessible, incredible work life balance, and you don't have to wear a suit to work. The work is engaging and the culture is just plain happy. No big egos here. FE is the best place to work at.

ConsThe main office is in Sunnyvale.
