Pros – They give you the freedom to develop as a salesperson. Management is friendly, and it is a fun place to work as a high school student.
Cons – Pay is low. They have moved to commission based salary which has helped sales. If you're good, you work late hours.
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your employees. The people you have working for you are much more capable than you think. Just because a salesman doesn't do something "by the book" doesn't mean they are doing it the wrong way.

Pros – If you are into shoes, etc. this is a great place to work. Company discount is decent. Benefits are good, especially the managers convention, where your travel, hotel, etc are covered...nightly activities and tons of free stuff. Pay wasn't bad, and there were opportunities for bonuses each month. Occasional free shoes throughout the year.
Cons – Hours were rough, especially in a smaller store. If you don't have the labor budget to have hourly assistant managers or sales people to fill in, you would have to pick up the slack (managers are salary so your time on the clock doesn't come out of your labor budget). Also seemed to catch a lot of heat if the store was underperforming (regardless if you were located in a mall where more stores were going out of business than staying open). You were forced to stick to a marketing plan developed at the home office. For example, I was forced to put all my college apparel in the front of a store in a town that had no colleges and with very little college sports following. The only time it sold was when the price was cut dramatically. I was reprimanded for moving it to the back of the store and moving something to the front that was more important to my customers.
Advice to Senior Management – Allow a little more creative freedom to management. They generally know their customers better than someone in the home office hundreds of miles away.

Former Employee – worked at Finish Line
Pros – Flexible schedule, friendly environment. Helped everyone learn the correct way to do things.
Cons – Everything wasn't always clearly communicated
Advice to Senior Management – Training sold be more specific and at a uniform time, not just random times at work.

Current Employee – been working at Finish Line
Pros – enjoyable atmosphere to work in
decent benefits package
good employee discount percentage
plenty of contests and bonus opportunities throughout the year
Cons – substandard compensation
inconsistency in amount of hours each week
high turnover in GM position
dealing with out-of-control customers
ridiculous sales goals and policies implemented occasionally
Advice to Senior Management – the leadership at Finish Line is competent, but I feel that they don't always make proper decisions when it comes to many issues. Corporate needs to consult with their managers before making decisions about policies that directly affect them.

Pros – Good for entry-level. Good Management in Training program for under-grads and recent grads. Flexible life / work balance. Sales associates receive ongoing product training and discounts on merchandise.
Cons – Retail hours which you must work into your life. Pay is typically low , dependent upon location. Like most retail positions , it is not mentally challenging or rewarding. Boredom can become an issue.
Advice to Senior Management – None at this time.
