    Asst store manager

    Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
    Carson, CA

ProsPros that is a good one none what so ever

ConsManagement is always pushing for more no room to move up can move down and take a up cut of half your salary and get promised things that will never happen they do that to the associates as we'll making like they are going to move up but just have them doing more work

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a real store managers in the stores that don't put everyone below them down like the West Covina stores a manger does as well as the los cerrtios store and make sure the DMs do what they say they will do not just pushing things off

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    IT Department

    IT Department (Former Employee)
    Indianapolis, IN

ProsI was at Finish Line for nearly 8 years and it was an awesome place to work until about a year ago.

ConsThe IT department is a train wreck now. People are leaving as fast as they can. The department has suffered better than 20% turnover in the last 9 months and it is going to get worse. Do NOT apply here! There is a reason they have so many openings in IT.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit. Go somewhere else.

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Montgomeryville, PA

ProsThere are no pros here other than the discounts on sneakers and clothes that you get and that's about all here is .

ConsEverything about the entire place is terrible when it comes to being employed there so I would not recommend it to anyone else

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being so arrogant

    ConsWork alone
Not a lot of work and can be boring at times.
Very few customers and expected to make sales. Would sometimes see only 5 customers in an 8 hour shift.
    No training

Great for first 7 years, but company has gone down the wrong path!

    10 Years (Former Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsThe people and customers. There are many people that work for the company that have no idea what their potential really is and how good they really are at their job. I really enjoyed helping customers and talking to them.

ConsThe company cares very little about their employees. This wasn't always true, but has slowly gotten that way. Upper management has all changed in the past few years, and NOT for the better. As a store manager your opinion doesn't matter and is unwanted, unless your picking up a million dollars per year. I have seen so many great people come and go, due to regional managers and corporate struggling how to "figure it out"!

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that internet shopping and outdoor malls will put you out of business shortly. Take care of your people and they will be happier and work 100 times harder. (Not to mention-recruiting wouldn't be such a challenge!

Eye opening. as to what I don't want to become and still handle business

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
    Indianapolis, IN

Prosdiscounts, a few of the staff members. fitness center

ConsNot liberal with schedules if a rep is hired at 8-5:30 then they should work that time. if you find 9-6 there is a greater call volume offer that with the next group don't shift people who may have "LIFE" happening situations. Management has life happen sometimes ...but they are not penalized for that. Letting a VP change a call center into a retail store, retail is retail and online is online they should have never crossed the two...Especially with the way the bonus system is set up. NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO GROW...there are not enough departments to switch to based on experience and not education

Advice to Senior ManagementBe accepting to life happens, and more liberal on work schedules . hire according to business needs , possibly go by seniority to assist in shift bids...hire for peak hours mid-day...look at possibility of 24hrs availability people shop with the company from all over the world

Finish Line is an uncaring money-driven corporation who abuses their employees for profit

    Store Manager (Former Employee)

Prosthey pay you. there's nothing more on the pro side, sorry.

ConsThey require an impossible to achieve work-ethic that requires store managers to work 55+ hours per week during the holiday season, during the back-to-school season, and during any hardship that occurs... the store manager must make up for ( and work the hours of ) any employee who doesn't perform, regardless of the reasons why... fire an Assistant for stealing? great, now /you/ have to work their hours until we get around to hiring a replacement... blizzard coming? so what... work a 12 hour shift, sleep for 3-4 hours and be back in at 5am for inventory... they do not care about safety at all, they do not care about their employees at all, they do not care about /you/ at. all. they care about numbers, they care about tracking those numbers... and that;s it. that's all they care about.

Advice to Senior Managementyou might be able to keep better people if you bothered to care about them.

Alienating business practices, zero regard for employees.

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Chandler, AZ

ProsThere are no pros anymore. You can't get discounts on anything worthwhile.

ConsInconsistent Hours, terrible Pay, impractical sales practices, embarrassing dress code (those t-shirts were demeaning to wear), poor management, nepotism/favoritism, no empathy for sick/injured workers, no work/life balance, no upward mobility.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive employees the ability to address what the customer really needs instead of trying to pawn off cleaners/accessories. You end up alienating customers and missing out on sales. Respect work/life balance, if a person has addressed the need for a specific day off a month or so in advance, honor that. Don't sit in the back on the phone all day & then cherry-pick easy register sales for yourself. Don't sit in the back and eat all day & then pretend you're doing something.
