A company managed by the Financial Team

Vice President - Senior Level (Current Employee)
    Santa Clara, CA

ProsThis is a company that provides multiple opportunities for aggressive hard working people to advance to the Director/Sr. Director levels

ConsThere is little to no focus on the customer.....never have I been at any company where the most senior of management conspires to "Get one over" on the customer......the least customer focused company in the NASDAQ 100 IMHO.

Almost all of the Senior management (VP and above) comes from outside the company

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember that your customers are the foundation of the company....not the bean counters

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Frustrating place to work

    Global Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsVery good at workforce diversity and hiring is deliberately that way. There is a family atmosphere at this particular site. Nothing else to say.

ConsSeems like a lot of people hang on and get by with the minimum amount of work and management lets it happen. Favoritism is evident.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication, remove the road blocks and recognize the real talent before it walks out the door.

Pros: many opportunities, little time. Cons: Pros: many opportunities, little time.

    (Current Employee)
    Milpitas, CA

ProsMany opportunities. Flextronics will let you run with ideas, and hold you accountable for the ideas. Lots of projects coming up, lots of new faces, and hiring is increasing.

ConsMany opportunities, not enough time. Very lean company, lots of people overloaded with assignments.
This may be indicative of the contract manufacturing environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood hard working people on multiple levels. Culture of working long hours. Need to take into consideration when hiring people if the culture will be a good fit.

Flextronics Medical Irving Design and Development Center facing stiff competitive pressure and losing people

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Irving, TX

Prosgood people overall; very little politics; flat organization allowing some empowerment; opportunity to work with other Flextronics sites, including international

ConsTop personnel have left for a competitor. Competitor is taking business from Company, resulting in full-time and contract labor layoffs. No strong sales/business development team to gain new business.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire strong business development people. Make sure current top performers are happy!

    Left with no support

    Manager (Former Employee)
    Memphis, TN

ProsSalaries appear to be in line with expectations for the market. The employees appear to be decent people and supportive of management. The company is financially viable and you should be able to expect continued employment from a business perspective.

ConsOn boarding process is horrible. It is by far the worst I have ever experienced. For example: Areas you are responsible for are not communicated to you and you can be blind sided.

Medical benefits are out of line with the local area. They are at least 20%-30% higher in cost with less coverage. Make sure you pay close attention to that if you are interviewing cover it with your salary negotiation. (I did not, don't make the same mistake I did)

Some departments are caught between Flex and the customer with no support (or perceived lack of support) from upper management at Flex. (especially in the reverse logistics arena). The data retrieval systems are sometimes inaccurate unless you know all the tricks to make them work. (these tricks are not given to new employees).

You must be ready for micro management from the customer base sometimes to the detriment of Flex putting the manager squarely at odds with whom to support in the decision making. If you are in management expect that upper management are in constant contact with the customer having meetings and agendas you may not be aware of or are not communicated effectively to you. Expect multiple interpretations of expectations from the customer to the outside management structure on what your priorities are and how to solve issue. Customers will move resources at the plant level without notification to flex management making it difficult to plan or implement ideas. (you never know when your resources will be reallocated). As a manager expect to be left out of the loop on decisions or direction. You have to know what your staff will be before taking a position. Make sure it is what you expect. Sometime you will be left with a department that has no or limited resources.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove your on boarding process. Include management in decision making. Never discuss with the customer items your management team may need to know. Support your managers and make sure they know you support them so they are not caught between you and the customer.

will not allow talent to follow their career path

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere are interesting problems to solve here. It is an IE gold mine. Some good people here. That's about it.

ConsVery low pay. Management is by intimidation and fear. No effective communication.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow talented employees to grow their careers.
