I have been working at Flextronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Just like the Mexican Mafia the money was decent but you really have no idea how long you will be there, it is not dependent on job performance, I received several raises and praises before my original boss got the chainsaw.

    Cons

It is a little bit more disorganized than the Mexican Mafia, It can be a lengthy fight to find out who is in control and sometimes the customers win, just be sure not to show over loyalty to one side since it might be different the next day, week or month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Basically here in Austin it is Solectron, just with the name change, the company itself really has employee relations as a very low priority. Flextronics that I was familiar with in California actually has a pretty decent rating and is run efficiently with organized management teams. Here there is no real plan and management is corrupt.

I have been working at Flextronics full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to take on new tasks.

One can take on any title here if you dare to take the responsibility.

Job opportunities for the town people.

    Cons

Negative blaming culture. Management is NOT reward based but punishment based. Example, when one accepted a new task, at that moment itself one is held accountable and in the firing line for anything relatable to the task. Previous owner will not help you. Why would they accept back a problem? Mostly because any ownership is trouble, not reward.

The seniors here are not friendly, does not want to share knowledge and does not work in a team. It is all about self survival here. The good ones that teach all eventually leave for better reward elsewhere. No plan to keep good people?

No civil respect here. Screaming, losing temper and degrading newbies culture.

Supervisors do not communicate and go through career roadmap with us. You are on your own.

    No sense of belonging.

    Internal dispute.

No proper training for new comers on the system and way of work here. Like usual the "blame" is active. No "solution".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring new people. Instead hire back the old good ones that kept the place intact in the first place.

Consider hiring transition managers. Knowledge are taken out forever at this rate.

    Pros

Good environment, coworkers, and parking lot.

    Cons

Not organized. They will promise you they will promote you once you complete your training... bull crap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't promise positions to people just to get in the company if you are not going to give it to them! Bad business!

I have been working at Flextronics

    Pros

You can refuse a task given to you. Managers are too scared to lose their seemingly good people. Too bad for new hires.
    The company is always hiring
For new hires you do everything your seniors don't want to do and get blamed by being forced to own a problematic project.

    Cons

The factories here provide bread & butter to thousands of people and they work very hard to keep the company profitable. However, when the going gets tough they are the first to lose their job when management decided on cost cutting. The culture is so focused on blaming, it is not that people in flextronics like to blame, but the novelty of owning up and fixing a problem up to an extend of another's problem always, not often but always, result in that person being severed. A drop of fresh milk into a glass of bad milk changes nothing. This is the 3rd round of layoffs and the people that cheat the system by manipulating the data survives. A lot of politics here and the performance metric is really bad. Backstabbing culture and people using their skills to figure out how to survive rather than what to do to thrive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems to me your middle managers need counseling.

I have been working at Flextronics full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I'm able to gain more knowledge in Contract Manufacturing. Learn in details all the basic flow of the departments and team available in manufacturing field. Learned to be mentally and physically strong with this kind of hectic environment which makes people totally burned-out, and full of chaos.

    Cons

The lack of teamwork or I might say NO teamwork at all. No standard procedures and flow that all employee will follow. Typical system used, a not-so-friendly user at all. Major people won't walk the talk. You'll need to do a lot of non-added value tasks because people are less responsible and not commited enough. The foundation of this plant is very weak. There's nothing much you can do. No matter how hard you try, how much you give your effort to make things better, you still unable to change these toxic people ( up to the top ), and as well as environment. The only thing you can do is to adapt, and become immune to the situation.
