    Foot in the door...

    Support Technician (Current Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsWell, it is a job that has allowed me to learn IT skills without having to pay for it.

    ConsNo nets around the buildings.
Made the same amount of money on unemployment.
Most of the management come from other countries so sometimes there is a language barrier. It is cheaper for Flextronics to pay them a housing expense and a salary that is good in their native state than it is to hire local management. And if you do take any management roles you will be working for considerably less than what is typically paid for the same type of work at other businesses.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe nice to the locals.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Incredible pace

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsOne can gain professional experience with lots of customers in a variety of industries within a short period of time.

ConsCulture is based on loyalty - you try to stick with a manager and his advancement is considered the guarantee for your own job security. People dont trust their professional performance to stay in current job or get a new one within the company, need a "sponsor" and that distorts their judgement and prioritisation (pleasing the sponsor is the #1 aspect for all future decisions).

Advice to Senior ManagementWalk the talk - root out unacceptable leadership behaviour.

    ProsGood pay... people are nice.

ConsCorporate training strong but local training non-existent. Morale in some departments very discouraging. Poor work like balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove work-life balance....better core training for systems for all departments.

Who you know matters big time at Flex. Internal politics unfortunately growing. Lots of start/stop activity.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsGood global manufacturing experience.
    Great global footprint
Well respected EMS provider for OEM's....trying to shift focus to supply chain service company and shirk true EMS moniker.
Creating partnerships with very large companies to play in evolving eco-systems.

ConsDirect Labor treated as a commodity and disposable.
    No loyalty.
Super tight cost focus due to low margins. Lay-offs regular, reorgs regular, travel freeze regular.
    Forecasting is weak.
Culture given good lip service....not truly lived.

Advice to Senior ManagementCEO needs to get more active/engaged with employees. Good customer focus guy....weak employee focus. No EQ, good IQ Has great ability to do so, but chooses not to.. More respect for GM's at manufacturing plants needed. Corporate calls too many shots independent of local site input.

ProsGood place to train for those entering the Medical Engineering field.
Opportunity to see many aspects of Medical Disposables and EMS.
Great staff to work with, friendly and hard working.
Bonuses dependent upon Division and Corporate profits.

ConsManagement is highly critical of staff.
They tend to look for negative attributes of employees and dwell on them.
Most of Management are under qualified with limited experience.
Very little opportunity to develop and training limited to meeting FDA requirements.
Organization is very flat, little to no opportunity for advancement.
    High than average turn-over rate.
Corporate policy includes tuition reimbursement, but subject to divisional management, and they do not approve tuition reimbursement requests.
Raises are minimal to non-existent, most lose money with each passing year since annual raises are typically less than cost-of-living.

Advice to Senior ManagementMany of the best and most knowledgeable staff leave within 4-5 years for increase in pay and advancement, if you want to retain competent staff, address Cons in this review and read some of Zig Ziglar's books - you violate every management and people ideology.

    Be Aware of Management

    Business Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsHelp you to be exposure with different companies and sites around the world. Management is complete different between sites, I originally start working in MX then move to CA and finally end in TX.

ConsManagement is the worse area in Flextronics, they don't care about people life, they thing they own you which is wrong. After experience management in three different locations I would said the best was in CA more work-life balance experience, worse for sure Austin, Micromanagement, really bad decision leading to burn the employees

Advice to Senior ManagementThink in the people like a people, not just pieces that can be replace and use without any consideration. Don't overwhelm them with micromanagement, most of the times they can work by them self and create their own plan to become success.

Prosthe people i worked with were great.
It has very professional and dedicated management teams.

ConsThe business is very cyclical. Lots of people get cut when a contract gets dropped.
Pay is Lower than it should be.
The general attitude for low level employees is that they can easily be replaced so there is little loyalty to the little guys in the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay a better wage and try to keep employees.
