I worked at Florida International University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent company benefits, ability to extend and complete your education and or if you have a child they can complete their education. Good work life balance, basically you will be able to have quality time with your family. If you value helping students complete their higher education this is the place to be! The greatest satisfaction is attending graduation and watching your students receive their degree. It will leave you speechless knowing you were a part of the process.

    Cons

lots of red tape, takes time to get things through the chain of command, moderate compensation, lots of politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider how to make processes more efficient for staff, faculty as well as students.

I have been working at Florida International University

    Pros

Benefits, Tuition reimbursement, flexible work hours for students, sometimes great bosses and coworkers depending on your department. Great for a first job after graduating.

    Cons

giant bureaucracy that doesn't reward hard work. Organizational structure reduces accountability and fosters a "not my job" attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary and promotion should be based on performance, not seniority or pay-scales.
This is demotivating and encourages people to only work hard enough to keep their jobs.

I worked at Florida International University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent Team, state of the art database, supportive atmosphere

    Cons

Merger/Take-over of Jewish Museum of Florida ( my then employer) took a hostile turn as leaders could not agree and move forward efficiently with necessary tasks, hindering productivity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Management at FIU should take control of the Jewish Museum and immediately implement processes and resolve internal conflicts that created a hostile environment. (mergers are never easy)

I worked at Florida International University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - flexible hours, only 20 hours/weekly since is a part-time job
    - not difficult since they are mostly undergraduate courses

    Cons

    - the management is questionable, workload is not distributed fairly among all TAs (I got upset because I was given way more tasks than some others, what makes it worse is that they even add new assignments to you in the middle of the semester!)
    - no extra benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - make job assignment more fairly
    - do not change or add tasks to TA arbitrarily
