    Pros

Benefits are very good. On site gym.

    Cons

Where to begin....Management never seems to have enough money in the budget for anything more than a 2% pay raise, if you're lucky 2.5%. Yet we win rate cases and constant company wide emails about how much money FPL has. The company is EXTREMELY big on "who you know and if we like you." This is how you advance at FPL. You do not have to necessarily know much about the job. Employees at FPL seem to have no work/life balance. We are currently going through something called "Employee Engagement" this is where the company gets surveyed on various aspects of your experience at FPL (mgmt,work/life balance, etc.) my business unit scored extremely low. They stress how much they want to improve on things but I get the sense it is only to improve scores every two yrs. All in all if you know the right people and/or are apart of management you will probably find this a great place to work.

    Pros

Employees (not management) are great people. Also, the 401k and pension benefits are great. But that's pretty much where it ends.

    Cons

Too much outsourcing as management only cares about the bottom dollar. You see more contractors in the building than employees. The ratio of contractors to employees is 80/20. You are expected to work 50 hours a week at least, but usually we need to work more than 60 to get the job done due to the lack of resources. Employees are underpaid for the jobs they are doing and you have to leave the company and come back in order to make more money.

    Advice to Management

Care more about the people that are making you rich and less about the stock price. I would highly recommend the CEO go on Undercover Boss so he could see what it's like. But I'm sure in his case ignorance is bliss.

    Pros

Back in early 80's was a great place to work.

    Cons

Cuban connection, too many of senior management friends collaborate.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially your exempt employees who are dedicated and committed but unappreciated

    Pros

Very professional, hard-working employees. A large company with advancement potential.

    Cons

Exempt employees are expected to consistently work lots of extra (uncompensated) hours. The routine work load is unmanageable. The expectation is that employees will consistently stay late to keep up with routine tasks. My manager routinely states, "people in this company regularly put in twelve hour work days." Despite the extra effort, raises do not keep pace with inflation (2% per year) and bonus money has been reduced. Employee turnover is increasing rapidly. It's too bad because this used to be a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to push employees this hard, increase compensation. Take a more long-term view. Unless, of course, the goal is to sell the company.

    Pros

They have pension, 401k matching, annual bonuses and great medical and dental benefits.

    Cons

The CEO Jim Robo is running the company into the ground on the employee side. He is stripping as many benefits as he can in order to save the company money as well as laying off a large part of the workforce while expecting employees to work harder and longer. Meanwhile his salary and bonus and other benefits are in the millions. A once great company where many employees were lifers is now turning into a place where good employees want to flee as soon as other positions at other companies in the area become available. As the economy gets better and more external job opportunities arise there will be a brain drain and an mass exodus of experienced employees. That will harm the company's ability to operate efficiently and end up costing the company more money in the long run. Jim Robo's short sightedness and greed has made this a miserable place to work.

Also, the CIO, Lakshman, is a useless puppet that does nothing helpful to the IM department. The employees and management see right through him. "Meets is the new exceeds" is his motto for annual reviews which ultimately makes the employees put forth no effort at all to get a increased bonus as it is far too difficult to achieve. He should be replaced ASAP!

    Advice to Management

Saving money by eliminating under used facilities, replacing all printers with Ricoh printers are great ways to save money without effecting employee moral, but eliminating home internet reimbursement and offering low percentage raises and the like is detrimental to company moral and will cost the company more money in the long run. Treat your employees better, like the way FPL has historically treated its employees - like valuable members of the company and not a necessary evil to make the executives wealthier.

    Pros

-Decent salaries, but depends where you live. In a populated area, the salary won't go far.
-Great opportunities are everywhere to learn many different facets of the industry
-Great people work here, many intelligent, humble, team players are found throughout.
-Decent benefits, 401K, pension, vacation days, etc.

    Cons

-Culture rewards workaholics. If you want to move up prepare to give up your personal life.
-Upper management's expectations are flawed and misguided.
-Fear is the typical motivator found throughout. History has proven that those that question decisions or offer comments not in sync with the message from above are quickly removed.

    Advice to Management

-Welcome an environment of disagreement, even if someone is wrong with their ideas or opinions, having an honest conversation with your direct reports may open new avenues of thought.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits.
Some excellent lower level mangers if you get one.
    Good location but expensive

    Cons

    Very political atmosphere.
    Communication is horrible.
Goofing off is ignored so many do minimum and get paid.
Pay scale is low for a high priced area to live.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. As the economy improves, many will have no reason to hang around unless they are given incentive. Get rid of the slackers. Include this on those employee surveys and you will discover how many folks you pay for doing nothing.
