I worked at Flowers Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you work hard and strive to be the best you can be, you will be rewarded. Good growth opportunities for all employees.

    Cons

Management can be very demanding and unreasonable at times. Must be flexible in length of hours worked and ever changing schedules.

    Advice to Management

Do everything you can to hold on to good people, they are very hard to find.

I have been working at Flowers Foods as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It is a great opportunity to start a business. Flowers takes the risk and puts the up-front capital, giving you the chance to pay them back as you work your territory. After 10 years the route is yours, free and clear. You can build the equity and make a nice living at the same time.

    Cons

You are a business owner and as such responsible for everything, truck lease, fuel, maintenance, etc. There are no real benefits, and you can only take 2 weeks vacation each year, unless you have someone run your route while you are away.

    Advice to Management

I believe that when you have a distributor that has stuck it out for 10 years, you should consider giving a little more vacation time available. It is a very demanding job and run the risk of burn out. If a distributor could look forward to an extra week vacation, it could go a long way.
