    Pros

    Work is less hectic
some career switches are possible if you find the right opportunity
    good team members
    working with business is interesting
encourages employees to be inclined towards continuous improvement, invests in training
recently investing heavily in new technology systems as current systems are very dated
    ethical and safe

    Cons

not very social, no team outings, no team building, feels like a robot just coming in, doing their work and going home
    appraisals are like peanuts
    mainly a male dominated company
    no flexible timings (8-5 culture)
if you are technically inclined, not a company for you as contractors are hired for programming, not much innovation...it is manufacturing company not an IT company
no standard/global systems, every site has their own ERP system. data becomes fragmented

    Pros

The demand for oil and gas movement solutions is strong and will continue to be strong for the foreseeable future. This means Flowserve has a good outlook.

    Cons

There is some bureaucracy and dysfunction. To quote a phrase "Well-functioning companies are all alike, dysfunctional companies are dysfunctional in their own way."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work a bit harder at keeping the lines of communication open with the rank and file.

    Pros

Pay is good as long as you're on the managers good side.

Unlimited overtime and weekends to work if you need money.

    Cons

    Give 100%, they expect 110%.
    Give 110%, they expect 120%.

No regard to your personal life, they don't care. All they want is for you to be a robot and obey their command, don't expect any recognition, or anything in return. Our shop did record numbers and we got a 10 cent raise and hardly a bonus. While the managers (if you want to call them that) got their annual 30-50k bonus

    Insurance sorta sucks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You couldn't manage a lemonade stand. You need to remember where the money is being made. In the dirty hands of your hard working men. Not your cushy chair that you didn't earn

    Pros

Exciting products and good people to work with. Provided lots of training opportunities for ongoing education. Benefits are what you would expect for a corporation this size

    Cons

Raises are very little most years. Employees that stay are given small yearly increases, but if you leave they will offer a huge increase to get you to stay. I chose to leave. With the corporate pay structure I would have never gotten a raise again at the higher level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate your employees to better match market rates.

    Pros

I didn't realize how ethical Flowserve was until I worked for other companies. I miss the straight forwardness. Salary and bonus are fair. This is a good company to get experience from.

    Cons

It's hard to move up if you're not a falling into line "yes" man.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems like a lot of managerial systems (1 main boss and a dotted line to a 2nd boss) were theory found in book and implemented by people with no practical experience.

    Safe and Stable, but Slow

    Pros

The safety culture is outstanding. All employees go through a safety training and best-practice safety techniques are used throughout the office and manufacturing plant.
The continuous improvement culture is outstanding as well. There's a dedicated CIP black belt professional employee on-site to help ensure that the work environment is constantly getting better.
The office employees are all very nice and friendly. I've never met such a welcoming and considerate group of people in one place.
There are employee picnics and weekly volleyball games during the summer (after-hours of course) that help to round out the work-life balance.

    Cons

The company computer management system is pretty old. The main software used to track parts and place orders (Symix) is over 20 years old I believe. It works and it's not too hard to get used to, but it shows how backdated the computer system is.
The pumps sold by Flowserve are top of the line, which is good. But the bad thing is that engineering employees aren't focused on innovation or improving the design of the pumps (because they're essentially already as good as they can be).
The company wifi only worked on half of the office when I was there. And one of the urinals didn't flush for close to 2 months before somebody was called in to fix it. If things aren't costing the company money or creating a safety risk, they'll probably be ignored or postponed in lieu of "more important" matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I want to say to revamp the computer system, but I know that would be a HUGE overhaul and it would be very difficult for employees to adjust to a new system. Perhaps find a way to digitize data in spreadsheet-type databases instead of scanning whole documents into the network drives.

    Pros

Fair degree of independence and decision making latitude. Nice facility in corporate HQ and location is convenient. Business model is solid and industry has staying power (i.e., it's not going away) - Fluid motion control (pumps, valves and seals).

    Cons

Politics seemed a bit heavy - lots of hush-hush talk. There always seemed to be something going on/scheming of one sort or another.

    Pros

Casual Fridays, week off at Christmas, Summer hours, Cash Retirement Plan, AIP bonus based on Company performance, flexible work hours depending on your department, unlimited sick time

    Cons

Your yearly raise isn't based on your performance! Only get a percentage of money to divide between your team. Salaries are low!
