    Great place to work for.

Senior Financial Analyst (Former Employee) Aliso Viejo, CA

ProsAccomodating to family needs. Very flexible. Great people to work with. Great TOWP once you accumulate it. I was able to work from Full-time to Part-time.

ConsDepending on how the economy situation, raises was not good. However, other years when I began with Fluor, it was great.

The Largest Eng.'ing & Const. Co. which assigned me to many different projects over the past 8 years as a Sr. Engineer.

Senior Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager (Former Employee) Greenville, SC

    Pros-Career Growth,
    -High Income,
-Clear set of standards and procedures for performing most tasks, Knowledge on Line access for all Engineers (100 years of project experiences and lessons learned shared by all company engineers as a learning tool.)
    -Diversity of experience
    -Challenging
    -Professional
    -Ethical
    -Established

Cons-100% of the time on project, on the road. (No travel home to speak of)
-Performs more Project over sight managing contractors rather then Self Perform (In the last 2 years Fluor has been moving away from self perform)
-You are a number and not a person. If not billing hours you are non-existent.
-No effort on Fluor's part, to transition most employees from project to project. Therefore, if you don't know the right person or persons, you will have large amounts of time between projects without billing hours and loosing income. After 5 weeks "On the Bench" you loose your benefits.
-Below par home office support for projects in the field they are supporting.
-Engineers in supporting home office locations have lost their since of Customer Service. Many home office employees do not have the drive or desire to spend extra effort support projects in the field.
-Several projects have required me to not only perform Project Management and/or Construction Management duties as well as Field Engineering duties but also Design Engineering with Drawings when an under bid project runs out of design engineering hours and the project is approximately 85% complete.
-Recently the RFI (Request for Information) questions submitted by contactors and/or clients are increasing in numbers and taking much to long to complete.

Advice to Senior Management-Clearly develop KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) for the plant production, Downtime, Project Management, etc... so that performance is always on everyone's mind and it is obvious weather we are improving, or not improving or weather a project is on schedule and under budget.
-Utilize all the tools available today to manage whatever is being managed and that the track the team is on is in line with corporate goals.
    -Clearly Communicate
-Listen and ask questions for conformation of understanding
-Utilize Leading and Lagging Indicators so as to stay ahead of problems and to verify that corrective actions are having the expected results.
-Involve the right people on projects needing detailed coordination and planning so as not to impact production and to insure successful projects.
-Provide proper feedback to team members so as to help generate lessons learned and constant improvement
-Time Management should be a priority everyday.
-Develop an agreed upon SOW (Scope of Work) for projects and manage any scope creep using change order management
-Document daily, weekly, and Monthly progress being sure to point out milestones achieved, issues standing in the way of progress, etc...

ConsWhile working in Africa for Fluor, we had some security issues, or, should I say, some 'lack of security' issues.

MOST Stellar and Employee oriented Company in EPCOM industry.

Project Manager (Current Employee) Greenville, SC

ProsFluor contribution to employee wellness, education and career advancement are unparalleled in this industry. Compensation and benefits are also exceptional.

ConsDownturn in certain industries can lead to ROF (reduction of forces). Some company work practices are designed for mega projects and make it extremely hard to be competitive on certain small project opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementFit for purpose application of operating practices and execution activities must be implemented to insure future project awards and maintain work load to support retainage of superior employees.

    Top notch

Associate Design Engineer III (Current Employee) Greenville, SC

Pros-typical benefits and perks to working at a good large company. This involves the following:
       -higher pay (and paid OT)
       -better benefits
       -better work environment
       -abundant training/ development opportunities
-on-site fitness center and recreation fields
-every other Friday is a non-working Friday
       -and more

    Cons-large company bureaucracy
-lots of employees means more layoffs in economic downturns (typical for the industry)

    Great company...

Project Manager (Current Employee) Greenville, SC

    Pros1) Opportunity for growth
    2) Lots of training opportunities available; including CBT
    3) Many opportunities to travel within US and overseas
    4) Competitive salaries and great benefits (although getting less and less)
    5) Interesting work
    6) Great people to work with

Cons1) In the bad times, not much security for anyone
    2) Sometimes you have to go where the work is to keep your job
    3) Not enough sharing of work between offices. Many times, when one office is going through a down turn and another is booming, they will hire new employees instead of sharing work within US offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementPerform more oversight into the health of all offices. Mandate work sharing between offices to keep the valuable empoyees working. Place a much bigger emphasis on keeping the good talent. We, as a company, train way too many people who use this added talent to the benefit of our competitors.
