    Plant Operator

    Plant Operator (Current Employee)
    Boulder, CO

ProsNot a lot to say, in the position I was in. The facility they do contract work for the other company , is a mess.

ConsDon't know , where to start. Very mismanaged, never saw the supervisor, maybe once out of the six months I was there.

Before, I took the job, they must have gone through well over 2 dozen people, and the contract company I worked for ,warned me about them. And they were right.

I believe the good comments on this company in my position, probably are unionize people. This job wasn't. Not saying all unions are good, but in this case with this facility they out weight the mismanagement here.

Co-workers were pretty much never happy , a lot of narrow mind Hecks that worked there. A lot of the senior workers, wanted to quit , but couldn't because , they were too old. So, you can get the picture here. The company theY do work for , couldn't careless about the facility and mostly like are just stringing it along unlit they close it in 5ys. They also, couldn't care less for the safety around there either. (Fluor was too busy blaming their workers not themselves, which is BS)

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to clean house with your management here & get rid of the Senior operators that don't want to be there.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Hire you to bill the job and let you go the minute billable hour is finished

    Project Controls Principal (Current Employee)
    Irvine, CA

ProsGreat connection with US and other governements and large number of big and exciting jobs. Good structure has been put in place after many years of cost reimbursible jobs at the client's expense.

ConsFluor middle tier managers are acting more like a gang and if you are a new comer to this gang, usually you get the hardest job and although you do it to best possible way, they claim the credit and if you question them, you will not be given any answer, instead you get ...

In my case, I shared all of my 20 years of experience in Project Controls and they used it and claimed the credit for it.

Advice to Senior ManagementRather than keeping your middle tier managers in their position for a long time and give them power to operate without ever questioning them, always audit the managers hiring and layoff practices and question the experience and knowledge of the people replaced. In my case, I was replaced by someone who had not ever built a power plant before.

Fluor, a good place to work if you like idle time.

    Senior Design Engineer (Current Employee)
    Sugar Land, TX

ProsFluor offers top pay. There are a lot of good people to work with.

ConsFluor is a big company and it is easy to get lost in the crowd. The company has a tendancy to hire people and put them in a cubicle and have them do nothing. Fluor does not care because the client gets billed for the time. Flour has a tendancy to overstaff the projects and work inefficiently so that they can bill more hours to the client. Anyone contemplating a job with Fluor has to keep in mind that there is a good chance that you will be placed in a cubicle with nothing to do so that your time can be billed to the customer.

Management is distant from the people that work for them. They go our of their way to avoid interaction with the "worker bees". It is difficult to have a decent discussion with your supervising manager regarding the work you do and your future career.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be affraid of the people that work for you, you can interact with them every once in a while. Try providing value for your customers instead of trying to bill as many hours as you possibly can.

ProsPay and time off the project for R & R
Diversity getting to meet new people
Traveling get to see the world

ConsManagement has no clue how to operate the data base they run.
Promotions are givin based on how much of a friend you are to the boss and not based on time on project and knowledge
If you do know what your doing you will move around to fix everyones mistakes
If you are friends with the right people you can be a AO manager for some groups even if you just got in country.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo be fair with promotions
Dont move your problem employees around and get the good ones to fix there mistakes
Your managers should have a basic knowledge of the jobs they are over
