I have been working at Fluor full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They treat employees with respect and generally do not micro-manage you. If you are assigned to a project the pay scale is great.

    Cons

If you are a local hire you don't get some wonderful perks like employees on job assignment do. Medical Benifits are very expensive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management needs to be more Pro Active instead of Re Active. Upper Management demands results and does not question how production results are obtained untill an incident occurs.

    Pros

Flex Schedule. Good Benefits. Great people to work with for the most part.

    Cons

High Stress environment. Work with many people who are "workaholics" and expect you to be the same way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop work from home initiatives to draw young candidates.

I worked at Fluor full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked for Fluor for 13 years; if you pay attention and work as a team player, it exceeds the other top EPC firms for which I worked in terms of learning curve on project execution, employee relations and employee/management loyalty. If you don't know how to work as a team player, our division quickly got rid of you through separation or transfer, and some of the personality with whom you work do not make "team work" easy.

    Cons

Fluor pays near the top, but not at the top of major US EPC firms. Some of its technical experts are lifers who prefer to talk only with each other, sometimes at the expense of project operations. The Construction side out of Greenville and bean-counters in Sugar Land have sometimes had oversize influence on company performance and not in a good way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your rather talented HR staff; re-institute the Fluor Constructors HR folks onsite to ensure your employees are well cared for.

    Pros

Very professional people. You're left alone to do your job and they have clear cut information to show you how they want it done.

    Cons

Like most contract work, you're busy until you're not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Doing a good job.

I have been working at Fluor full-time

    Pros

Successful company with true commitment to both ethics and safety.

    Cons

Fluor is a project-based company. Jobs last only until the project ends - often after only a few months or a couple of years. If there is not another job available on a different project, employees are put on LOA without pay. This results in employees leaving the company for other firms or taking jobs in hardship areas to stay employed.

I worked at Fluor as a contractor

    Pros

Available training within company. Promotions possible. Travel available. Adequate and competitive pay.

    Cons

Cliques can be roadblocks to personal growth and promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider yourself team members instead of disciplinarians and authoritarians. Upper management should be more aware of project managers' leadership styles on jobsites and do away with cliques, holier than thou attitudes, and tough guy mentalities. Fostering a team is much more valuable and fruitful than whipping the underlings. Fear of being judged harshly and reprimanded unjustly does not produce contented and dedicated employees. It was always very disappointing to witness a jobsite run according to these principles. With this being said, I must add that there are some very good managers with excellent skills, values and work ethics within the Fluor organization.

I worked at Fluor full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This was a great first job out of college. They were able to provide good training and real life experience. The pay was very good for a first job.

    Cons

The work comes and goes and when things are good they are very good and when they are bad you get laid off. You figure they pay you extra to compensate for the fact that they may get rid of you after your project is over.
