I have been working at Food Lion full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Stern, yet fair management, solid company policies, adequate compensation for duties required/job title, better than average benefits and perks, lots of room for growth and promotion, provided you work hard and consistent to their policies

    Cons

Just as with all grocery concepts, promoting to full time can take a while, unless you get hired in as full time. Turnover is relatively high, so be patient. Company has a strict policy code, and not much room for error (i.e. safety, sanitation, product rotation, etc.). Communication between management and staff could be better-not much of a problem if you consider yourself to be a self-starter and decision maker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication with staff on planning and expectations

I have been working at Food Lion full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Plenty room for moving up. Many hours of overtime if willing to work. Great friendly coworkers and customers.

    Cons

Penalties are not strong enough for those not willing to show up on there schedule time slot. Annual 2% raise is insulting for those of us who work hard and go above and beyond on a weekly basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better take care of those employees who work hard and are dependable.

I have been working at Food Lion part-time

    Pros

work life balance training and time off policies make this company a great place to work if you don't have anything else to do with your time.

    Cons

The management here are all about food lion. it made it hard as a full time student trying to work a part time job. I wasnt going to sacrifice school so that a shift would be covered and like other employers most likely, they were not understanding

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

think about the little people that make your company run.

I have been working at Food Lion full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Room for advancement. Positive changing culture. Bringing back 2.5-5% raises(depending on evaluation). Upgrading front end equipment. Multiple test programs in order to see what direction to move with based on customer input and region performance. The more you invest yourself in the store, the more you receive. You truly own you own development.

    Cons

Lack of consistency on expectations of store. Some regions hold their management and stores to food lion expectation while some do not. The further you get from Salisbury(location of home office), the less expectations are enforced. Some management doesn't have the ethics that are expected( saying promotions are only 10% when it isn't true and saying we can't give merit raises anymore when we actually can. I know this because I have received them and given them to my associates( with store manager and director approval).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to removing the remaining "good ole boy club members". Increase bottom and top of pay scales. Invest more labor into stores to ensure perfect store conditions.
