Marketing Manager

Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
Dearborn, MI

I worked at Ford Motor full-time for more than a year

Prosgood pay and benefits; a couple of decent and very smart people; family like of environment if you are on the inside

Consback stabbing; not invented here mentality; can not speak up without being threatened to be placed on improvement plan; HR gives the lip services but will not protect you if your boss is on the mission to get rid of you; experienced lack of integrity in the upper management in the field

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people from outside to bring new blood and holdyour LL3+ responsible to keep the talent. This culture is totally outdated!

Totally disappointed.

Product Engineer (Current Employee)
Dearborn, MI

I have been working at Ford Motor

ProsMaking products that you see on the road everyday and will see them for many years to come. Working with really smart people - opportunities that I would not be offered in other industries.

ConsVery long stressful hours - management stays hidden in their ivory towers - too afraid to venture out and say that we are doing a good job - its always "Ford Motor Company has had to make difficult decisions but we are on the right track now" - keep working your butts off" Trust is a big issue at Ford - Trust no one is the motto - Ford has a very high-schoolish like atmosphere - this person doesn't like that person - you really have to be good at kissing you know what to get anywhere in this company/plus throwing your co-worked under the bus will get you lots of kudos!!! It is really not a mentally healthy place to work. If you have a family and want to be in management - kiss your family good-bye.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo you really care what I have to say? No is the answer - you have tunnel vision, minds like a trap; once you have an idea about someone/something nothing can change your mind. Yet, you are above the rules can do whatever you wish, and DO!!! Thanks for the rising stock prices - but did you really have to almost kill the rest of us to do that? May God have mercy on you.

Consumable Human Labor

Vehicle Assembly Technician (Former Employee)
Louisville, KY

I worked at Ford Motor

ProsThe best reason to work for Ford is the pay rate and the health benefits. Another plus would be that you never take your job home with you.

ConsYou are nothing but a consumable asset to the company, a means to an end with no value beyond that. You are selling your body and they will use it up until it is gone.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out of the quantity focus and put the people first. The people are the most important asset. Treat them with the dignity and respect that you would want and deserve.

Everyone is out for themselves,

Senior IT Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at Ford Motor

ProsScale - very few places have the size and reach of Ford - even still. The problems to be solved are complex and compelling.

ConsManagement at all levels is only interested in their own interests - not the interests of the Company, it's customers, and certainly not it's employees. Micro-management is rampant as is lack of direction, lack of decision making, lack of innovation, lack of honesty, and just a plain lack of caring. Caring about anything except their own skin.

Advice to Senior ManagementMulally has been able to accomplish many things that Ford has tried to do over the last 30 years, or at least make progress where others have not been able to (creating a really global operation, effective sharing of vehicle platforms). I do question Ford's ability to thrive after Alan's five years are up. Boeing Commercial Aircraft is having difficulties with Mulally's legacy. Did he learn his lessons there or not? Let's make sure that Ford is thriving 10 years from now before we anoint Mulally the savior of the free-world.
